Streaming is becoming less and less viable as the ratio of streamers to viewers is getting higher every year. Twitch has as of last month 8 million active streamers.

If you take a look at TwitchTracker right now, there are 2,400,000~ live viewers with 120,000~ live channels. That's roughly 20 viewers per streamer on average. This number was higher in earlier years.

There are entire communities like r/twitch dedicated to losers who are trying to make it on Twitch from small streamer status.

Maybe I'm optimistic, but I can see hardcore shitposters and other disillusioned types heading back to pre-WWW services such as BBSs, Usenet and IRC. For BBSing, I'd expect some sort of hybrid SSH/Telnet client(s) with terminal emulation and the smarts to launch image and video links with plug-ins (such as FFMPEG). I haven't checked newsreaders recently, but I can see a newsreader with built-in binaries decoding being a possibility as well (if it doesn't already exist).

It'll make such sites harder to use on mobile devices, but tbh that's probably a good thing.
