They are 100% holding info about the strangulation back.
The eventual defense is going to try and argue the body was already heavily decomposing and picked over by local wildlife. Unless they have something, that'll be significant reasonable doubt. They still only have him on a warrant for using the credit card inappropriately. (Which he'll just claim he was given express permission to do by her.)
Still a long way to go to actually nailing him down with anything.
