Most modern day players don't see going to a tournament as an experience and often grossly overestimate their own skills. Tournaments for fighting games are suppose to be just good shit talking fun, but much like every genre now where gaming became srs bizness attracting a larger group of meta slaves that have a expectation of how things should go rather than adapting to the player themselves.

From my experience this wasn't as bad with the release of vanilla SF4 and everyone just was entering cause its cool to have everyone around just hyping up people doing j.hk > c.hk, but shit hit the fan once games started having full broadcasts and every sperg wanted to live the life of playing games for a living.

Its fine to get emotional over something you invested in but holy shit its still just you throwing a fireball at the end of day and is it really worth smashing your 700$ custom led mixbox over?

Just go to smaller events if you want something that's not going to be fabricated "hype"

Hope this leads to more dumb shit interviews that people can sperg out on though.

Does this bitch even play fighting games? I've never seen a video of hers.

It makes more sense for people like Maximillian Dood or even veterans like Alex Valle to reshape the brand and image. They live, eat, breath, and shit fighting games.

I honestly do not believe Pokimane will add anything positive to the table. It's literally going to be people massively simping and white knighting for her, which will add more SJW bullshit to EVO. I can already see James Chen and UltraDavid salivating at the mouths.

From my understanding all Thottymane does is play FOTM games that are popular with Twitch drones and get carried by thirstlords in-game while coomers shower her with money outside the game. Thottymane herself is unfunny, unskilled at vidya and unremarkable, in that sense she's perfect if EVO wants some sort of innofensive dumb bitch to parade around.

Quick look into an event happening within the next couple of years. We get a pokimane ran evo or whatever they change its name to. It sucks, reeks of corporatism, has no soul and has completely lost touch with the players. Because of pokimanes name it's one of the biggest sponsored tournaments ever, with a viewership that hates what they're watching. Queue Kotaku articles about how sexist the right-wing extremist fgc is, maybe we get some hitpieces on a couple of controversial figures that escaped from cancel culture previously, and Sonic fox who comes in 8th in dbfz or whatever gets named greatest fighting game player yet again.

This is the course we are on, and I for one can't wait to see how much worse it's going to get.

Pokimane knows she isn't getting any younger, she's trying to find some way to use her hard earned streamerbux and invest it into something longer term. I doubt the only thing this org she's got part ownership of is going to be EVO; they're probably going to try to be some marketing firm for esports/streamers as a whole. Adding something like EVO to their portfolio is all about making them look more legit both to corporate buyers and wannabe streamers. They got the right timing to be buying EVO too, get the name while it's cheap an muddled. Give it another year or two and it's the perfect landing pad for the riot money (still something of an if) they'll be pouring in to shill Rising Thunder 2: League of Faggots edition.

If you thought SFV and Strive were dry, I can't fucking wait for people to pretend to be hyped over the next installment in the David Sirlin inspired fighting genre: fighting games boiled down to nothing but literal rock paper scissors. Of course people will still find a way to bitch about it somehow.

Time will tell if their investment pays off, and if they'll be hands off and let the community do all the dirty work, or go full corporate overlord.

Not big drama, but still funny. A streamer named SonicSol was getting bodied in Guilty Gear. His opponent, who was one of his subs, taunted him and he proceeded to have a mental breakdown. Someone clipped it and posted it to r/kappa with an appropriate backing track.



SonicSol then went on Twitter to lament about how toxic the FGC is and how FutaGangLarry betrayed him.

Good ol sonicsol. I watched him for a bit when poison came out in sfv to try and learn but he cried so much I believed she was trash tier. Then idom wins Capcom cup with poison and Laura.

Sonicsol is one I'd use as proof that fighting games need to be played live around others. He'd either restrain himself so he wouldn't flip out in public, or others could slap some sense into him. Or we could add it to the public freakouts section because people who freak out over video games in public deserve to be laughed at the most.
