Though I do think the "Yagoo home for broken girls" thing is a bit exaggerated, and stems more from how many of the people attracted to vtubing and who become vtubers are, well, people who don't 100% "fit in" with regular Japanese society. One can certainly find vtubers in other agencies or indies with similar backgrounds. Even those who have wealth and whatnot are, well, nerds.

You hit the nail on the head that it is a consequence of the type of person who would be inclined to be a vtuber in the first place.
