It really is pathetic. The RNC pretty much just saw how talking about CRT all the time polled really well for them so it became their silver bullet to help defeat the Dems here. I doubt most of the Repubs talking about CRT even understand what sort of dumbassery it even is, instead it's just a random buzzword for most of the elites.
Trump does still have an effect on Republican politics, but my issue is I don't think establishment Republicans believe he has a positive effect for them. Lot of them even seemed to sperg out when Trump merely endorsed Youngkin as though it'd torpedo his campaign to have one of the most popular figures in their party endorsing him. I think part of this comes from how most people seem blissfully unaware of what Trump or his buddies have been up to, so even the pro-Trump people can't come up with rebuttals to those suggesting the party move on from the populists and instead embrace people like JD Vance.
