Inactive Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka - Deadbeat (emphasis on "Dead") founder of Something Awful, forced out of his own community, on his second divorce, stuck his dick in crazy, "Birth Giver"

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
You, early 2000's, full of hope and optimism: watching a video on an exciting new Internet video site, laughs at of how Eric Bauman sucks and Lowtax will bang Bauman's mom and brand his ass with Something Awful.

You, late 2021, your hope and optimism gone: reading on a New Zealand agricultural forum about how Lowtax, the alcoholic, drug-addicted, twice-divorced ex-owner of Something Awful, has died under unknown circumstances. Eric Bauman is still alive, still has his money and is not a drain on society or a constant source of drama and bullshit to the people around him.

Really makes you think.

Like Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw vs James Stephanie "Troonquisition" Sterling. Except Croshaw is Bauman and Sterling is about to become Lowtax as their content devolves to rage articles about accepted capitalist practices while Yahtzee goes "Oh look, another bland game. Not worth my time, now this game about sailing..."

KThor of Portal of Evil is still around, but the site itself is nothing more than a video viewing site. I think Newgrounds is still around too.
What does he even do now?

I think out of everyone on that side of the internet Chet was the one who came closest to having an actual career but I don't know what he's up to these days either.

I'm not a parent but would a parent of two be okay with killing himself? Especially since he wasn't in his 20s and was a grown ass man. Like i get it, he had marital issues but still, he could've tried to be a apart of their lives.
There's cases of fathers deciding to strangle their kids and wives in their sleep on a whim or burn their house down with everyone inside over conflicts that are much less stressful than huge divorce settlements. Suicide definitely happens. I'm not sure people saying that this gives them closure and they'll be happier without him know how badly this can hit kids. Maybe they'll see it as closure in a decade after therapy, but not now.

I feel so bad for his kids, especially the older ones who are probably reading this thread right now. Maybe the little one is too small to understand. How much of a fuck you is it to them that he would rather die than pay any kind of support to them at all? That's not even negligence or just being a deadbeat who doesn't pay out. It's a kind of active hatred for his own family to intentionally deprive his children of resource that could help them. Knowing that their dad hated them this much is such a heavy burden for them. No kid should ever have to carry that.

Now, they're going to have to fight Momtax tooth and nail just to see any money at all. She's just as much of a petty cunt as he is. He really did take after her. These kids deserve this money for all the therapy they need after the misfortune of having Lowtax for a dad.

I haven't paid attention to Lowtax in 5000 years. But this is really the worst part.

Lowtax's story should be required reading for everyone who's a YouTube star or TikTok influencer, or whatever.

A guy who thought the money train was going to keep on going who bought all the flashy shit and lived life like he was now part of the 1% forever.

Who ended up deep throating sausage on webcams for sheckles and then offed himself.

None of these people plan for the future. They're like the 80s rockstars of yore who bought fast cars, huge mansions and mountains of blow. Then comes grunge and suddenly you're playing dive bars for free beer. Fame is fleeting.

I am no Lowtax simp but if he actually lived up to that potential wouldn't you just call him a sellout? If he was running a massive social media company or digital media empire would you be calling him an internet titan or thinking about him like Zuck, Dorsey, the fine bros ect.
He could've lived up to his potential without becoming a state sponsored faggot like Dorsey or Zuck. Instead he decided to be a faggot in the opposite direction: a dumbass who squandered his potential for all the world to see.

Was Lowtax one of the last "giants" of the web 1.0 era that still had a public face (If even in a extremely diminished way)? I'm having a hard time coming up with any others that are still around.
Drew Curtis from Fark is still out there. He is regularly on some radio show and some other stuff. Nobody cares though.

I just checked and don't see CmdrTaco from Slashdot doing anything notable. Can't find anything on Jay Stile from Stile Project either. Can't remember the name of the dude's behind Ogrish or rotten.com so I don't know about them.

Maddox is still around and even has a thread here. He was a pretty big name back in the web 1.0 days.
