World of Warcraft

Nah fam, didn’t you hear Danuser? It was all carefully planned during Warcraft 3
How long is Danuser part of WoW team?

And fact they say they planned something in advance Is best joke.
Back in Legion they released series of books called Warcraft Chronicles or something like that.
And they were supposed to contain definitive version of lore and guess what by time they released next part previous one was already retconed by new game patch.

To be fair, a lot of what Metzen cooked up was basically appropriating stuff from other media. A lot of Warcraft was inspired by Dragonlance, for example (up to and including the fact an event that reshaped the world was referred to as 'the Cataclysm' in both) and is something that Metzen freely admits to (D&D also being where some of the stuff with Paladins originates from, like Lay on Hands and them getting a mount.)
There's some parallel between LK and Moorcock's Stormbringer/Mournblade.
Created by the forces of Chaos, it is described as a huge, black sword covered with strange runes carved deep into its blade. It is wielded by the doomed albino emperor Elric of Melniboné. [...] Moorcock intended the sword/character as a symbol of his theme, "how mankind's wish-fantasies can bring about the destruction of... part of mankind".
The idea that "there must always be a LK" may be based on his Eternal Champion character.
The Eternal Champion is an appointed paladin of Balance who is bound to exist in each and every world and age of the Multiverse [...] most of them are peerless fighters and generals and have an unbreakable bond with a sentient Chaos-aligned weapon, the Black Sword, which in turns takes on a different form for each Champion.
(I haven't actually read these so take it as you will)

fucking hell, it's clear dis bitch wants some spotlight.
He had the tranny's job back in 2015 then he became the Senior Narrative Designer for BFA where his first work was the self insert. Back in the WC3 days, he worked on Everquest II, So he had no input back then.
so basically that was a plan in the making from that demented faggot? i mean it's not uncommon for writerfags to self insert a "better them" in the story but this is some extreme writerfaggotry.

Anyone considering Season Of Mastery? I am a cuck for considering it for 5 minutes but at this point I can't afford two mmorpgs at once (I'm full on with FFXIV + additional retainers for full fee) and its probably just going to die off fast. I won't lie, I really enjoy classic WoW's gameplay and it wasn't even my first mmo (Ragnarok Online was) but meh doubt I'll be doing it.

I'm very interested to see what kind of meta will emerge will full debuff/buff slots, warlock stacking from the start with a shadow priest? Boomkins possibly? Anyone play on p.servers with "changes" that can reply to this?

That might be more likely than someone at Blizzard having seen a random anime that didn't get a wide distribution, but I found it interesting how the two paralleled each other so closely. Like, I had to reread a synopsis of the third Pirates movie, but in that it was just "if you stab Davy Jones's heart then you're the captain now." Nothing about the pirates going berserk, just a simple curse of "haha now you're stuck here." Compare with WotLK and Melody of Oblivion, where both explicitly state there must always be a Lich/Monster King so the Scourge/Monsters don't rampage and kill everything.

Again, it's either a funny coincidence or some weeb figured nobody would ever watch that show so they were free to rip it off wholesale. More likely the former, though I'd love to find out the latter was true, just to see how the community at large would react.
it's not the most outlandish idea, plus imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I don't even mind it that much because it still makes sense, where it gets a bit dumb is right after "we did it, we killed the lich king" it goes straight LOL NOPE THERE MUST ALWAYS BE A LICH KING WHAT A TWEEST RIGHT?! as @TVStactic mentioned. and worse it doesn't even do anything with it, everyone is just "ok cool, time to kill some black dragon now" and not even culling the scourge so the whole point of them rampaging without a master becomes moot. not to mention northrend was pretty much roflstomped already, so a masterless scourge wouldn't really be a challenge anyway (and lets not forget the 10/25 chumps who just killed said master).

what you gotta ask yourself: and then what? what does a new meta actually change in a game like classic?

I remember there was talk about some pservers on /v/ where they changed stuff, but can't really remember the names since I moved on from them years ago.

I would rather have classic+ tbh with stuff like beta outlands completed with "classic black temple", hyjal, and dragon isles.

There's always a crowd for a fresh server with the fun and actual interaction that comes with rushing up to 60 - boosting is a bit more difficult, things feel more new and shiny. But the way Blizz handled classic has been a pretty well-known disappointment among the types of people always jonesing for something like that, so I don't think it'll quite be the shot in the arm the original classic release was. I know that, you know that - just about everyone but the suits seems to understand that. I can virtually guarantee that Season of Mastery has been billed to them as something that'll massively increase subs - or at least stymie the hemorrhaging. That sure ain't happening, though.

Classic world with all the weird little things filled in with new content would be cool, like something put in Tirisfal that sits left of Deathknell, I want to see the original Quel'Thalas that hangs off the archipelago over Tirisfal, Shatterspear Vale, Hyjal opened up, finish off the Green Dragonflight quests from the Sunken Temple, implement Ashzara Crater, put some quests in Ashzara, put something in the area between Badlands and Redridge that was empy on the map in classic, same with north of Stormwind, give us pre-Worgen Gilneas. an instance in Stormwind where the old portal entrance was and opened up classic Dalaran. I just want classic, 1.12.2, with all of the little areas filled in, given questlines and lore.

Edit: Also I think it would be fun to remake Vanilla entirely but remix it and set it on the Alternate Azeroth from WoD that may or may not exist. Change the history a little in key points and let the world play out to see what comes out in the mix.

You think new content the current team would make for Classic would be good though? If they could make good expansions for Classic, then they'd make good expansions for Live.

I wasn't until I realized they were bringing old AV back.

I do wonder how quickly the attrition factor will set in, given the increased boss difficulty, and (I think) not increasing loot drops. TBC Guilds have been dropping left and right due to people not wanting to play the game, and the slow Honor farm and Arena changes to appeal more to Sweatlords, don't help either.

Out of the 30 active people in my tbc raid guild, only 3 started new SoM toons yesterday. I'm guessing that maybe 1 is still playing it next week, with noone after a month.

They released it too soon, another 6 months and maybe they would get more interest and retention.
