I should not that also includes social security taxes. My own taxes would be 42% there including social security, plus if your a researcher you're not taxed on all of your income. Only 70% of it get's taxed.

You also get a lot back for putting money into the system than you do in the United States.

People who don't make a certain amount in the Netherlands can see General Tax and Labour Tax credit bringing down what you pay into your taxes to only 14%. It all but pays off your taxable income tax, but doesn't touch your social security tax all that much. Why? So you can still get government benefits like family benefits, paid maternity/ paternity leave, long term care, unemployment benefits, disability benefits, and sick leave. You also are supposed to get off unemployment benefits as soon as possible unlike the States. There are many ways to get a job there. Don't have the qualifications there, go and get the training for it. It's free.

Oh yeah, you also need healthcare insurance there. If you can't afford it there's an allowance to offset some of that.
