DSP just assumes anyone graduating is filthy rich. Sure it looks great on a resume and people love to talk about it but it does not guarantee wealth.

This is speculation since we don't have much info, but I always saw Phil's parents (mostly his dad) would be the kind of guy to tell him "get good grades, go to college, and after you graduate you're set for life." Phil taking the "set for life" literally instead of "this is the foundation you build upon" got pissed when he had to answer phones for little money instead of immediately being handed the big office and high salary. Just dumb luck Youtube started gaining steam around the same time and handed him everything he felt he was entitled to.

He didn't do this 2-3 months ago. He would go a week before this kind of guilt tripping worked it's way back into the stream.

His begging has evahlved from “I need your tips to keep the heat on in my house” to “my playthroughs require $150 per stream don’t ask why or you’re banned”
He’s been leaning hard on the “it’s muh business” angle since the bank document leak, he knows claiming all tips as the bare necessity for his survival makes him look bad

That would indeed explain a lot, though obviously there's also the fact that his mom handed him everything he wanted to get handed to him, too. And until an embarrassing age. Phil was just simply born to want everything handed to him, he loves getting lucky and not having to work hard, he feels nothing out of a reward unless he basically doesn't deserve it. Then his mom fed into that his whole life, and so when his father tried to teach him stuff, it stood no chance of helping him.

I'm telling you, it's not a coincidence that the only time we see him genuinely enthusiastic about playing a game, it's a game of chance. Phil is at his happiest when life is giving him things he didn't earn, he loves risking it all for a chance at the tiniest bit of that satisfaction.

What you describe is not unique to DSP. The "Must have degree to survive" mentality has been beaten into the youth for at least the past three decades while at the same time lowering every measurable standard to pass as many through and into crippling student loan debt as possible. Then one day a kid wakes up to realize he's 25 with a useless degree and owing six-figure sums that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. This partly explains why there are thousands of younger people spreading their legs on Chaterbate and OnlyFans as I type this. It's only going to get worse. Much, much worse.

I want to like that too, but, there's a GoldenColts and GoldenNOBLES, are you sure you're not conflating the two and giving one credit for the other's "conversion" that hasn't actually happened? I know this is a very specific question and am too lazy to look up the answer, but I do know Phil explained this detail at length once during a twitch stream.

General consensus is that he totaled up...something (microtransactions was mentioned during the public call) that gave him enough "expenses" to hit the Chapter 7 bar. His July 2019 business expense amount was particularly egregious (>$9000). He got away with it because boomer Nancy 1) didn't know shit about anything digital ("And what do those microtransactions pertain to?") and 2) didn't find any assets that would have made it worth her while to sell Phil's shit off. In addition, none of Phil's creditors challenged anything, so it was his word on its own. Nancy took her flat fee and moved on.
