I agree and disagree. Yes, she is no longer obligated to help him (and IMO shouldn’t)…but I think at least a few of his issues definitely started with her, his ego especially.

I agree. She's under no obligation, she did try for many years after adulthood to help Lucas, and we don't know the full extent of things Lucas has done.

It's that Myrna does it while lauding herself for being a great mother and caring so much about Lucas' mental problems. Whether she's aware of it or not, she's stringing Lucas on with the hope that if he finds a girlfriend, their relationship will be renewed. Either help Lucas or MOVE ON, this half-assed caring and sending Lucas little gifts on his birthday is fucked.

In fact its a really simplistic version of other tabletop wargames, some of the less complex ones which use hexagon-style board. Off the top of my head HeroScape comes to mind.

However, instead fighting entire squads or even armies, some units with different abilities; you play 2 Meeples.

Or its some other patient at Mallon Place just mentally impaired enough to believe the Freak's lies about how he has millionaire parents and will become the world's biggest board game designer.

I remember that game HeroScape, a sibling of mine had it and it wasn't too bad. Lucas's design kind of reminds me of Duel of Ages but created by a tard.

Shameful that board games are this guy's hobby because I kinda like some games.

I agree with your first sentence, but not the rest. Myrna is NOT as crazy as Lucas, that is just objectively false. Myrna really does not seem like a great person or mother, but she is by and large pretty normal. She is narcissistic, but that's about it. She has had TWO men love her enough to marry her, she retired young like Lucas always brags about, and she owned and managed a business. Also, her other son Seth (Shawn is his dad's from a previous relationship) is normal and doing well as a teacher. She definitely coddled Lucas more than she ever should have, but especially when he was a child, I can't fault her too much for that. No one wants to see their kids struggle to fit in and make friends, and of course she would want to make him feel better, From when he turned 18, his family tried to get him out on his own and draw hard boundaries, which they have, for the most part, stuck to. I don't LIKE Myrna by any means but I feel like people in this thread are too hard on her, I feel like everyone in Lucas's family are really normal folks who did their best with the beast they were stuck with. Lucas was doomed from the start, his mom being sad for him that he wasn't normal isn't what fucked him up. Myrna's actions were a RESPONSE to Lucas already being a braindead fuck up.

Now, that doesn't make it okay that once or twice a year she acts like she gives a fuck about him to make herself look better, but she is an exceedingly average woman who doesn't and never has known how to cope with the utter monster that she bore. Lucas's parents have tried to help him many times, including setting him up in places to live, and he trashes the place, doesn't pay rent on time, or does something else to ruin it. You are absolutely right, he is a grown ass man and he is a horrible excuse of a human being. I don't blame his family for giving up on him. I also don't think that Myrna (or Roy) "should" do more to "help" Lucas. The only reason I would say that MAYBE they should is for the benefit of the world who has to deal with the revolting monstrosity that has become of their child, but for Lucas himself, "help" doesn't help him. Like others have said, the only thing that would help him is an old fashioned sanitarium where he is locked up as if in prison, and HEAVILY medicated for the rest of his days.

Myrna also didn't just "get lucky and marry well". From my understanding, she and Roy built their travel agent business together, and then Myrna kept it after the divorce and got her new husband into it with her. She worked hard to have a decent life. Like I said I don't LIKE her and I don't want to seem like I'm just blindly defending her, but I really don't think it's fair how much she is blamed for Lucas being Lucas. Lucas would have been a bipolar, schizophrenic narcissist no matter what kind of parents he had. Maybe Myrna's coddling sped up the narcissism a bit, but he is what he is because of his vast mental problems and because he himself is a shit human being. From what we know of his family, none of the rest of them seem to be flat out bad people the way he is.

Before I start, I just want to make it clear that I’m not trying to correct you or intentionally powerlevel here, but I thought some gentle pushback might give us a chance to talk about something I’ve never seen discussed much before on this thread. I invite everyone to give their hot take.

Usually I skip all mention of COVID because I want to minimize my chances of talking to an aliterate paranoid sperg about the fundamentals of epidemiology, but you don’t fit that category and we aren’t in Internet Famous, so I’ll break protocol to say that the symptom in question would be ageusia.

Dysgeusia is the entire spectrum of changes to taste modality, but here is something that might be interesting to think about re: Lucas while we wait for the next saga to kick off. Why should we consider this a problem?

Any alteration to any sense is ultimately going to be rooted in the brain, so we probably all agree that something with Lucas’ brain is fucked up and that is the efficient cause for his eccentric gustatory habits. Being an outlier isn’t always a bad thing.

We are talking about the perceptions of a particular subject after all, so we couldn’t be dealing with something more subjective than this. If Lucas isn’t complaining and it isn’t keeping him from mechanically eating food, what is the harm? I could see how this might raise dietary concerns, in the sense that the dysgeusia motivates him to make poor choices in consumption, but he seems to inhale food at such volumes that he doesn’t strike me as a particularly picky eater.

Given what we know (which is precious little), I don’t think we could rule out past dental work. The chorda tympani is a fickle and sprawling bitch (the nerve primarily responsible for transmitting taste related sensation), trauma to the oral cavity from something like endodontic surgery could cause something like this and if Lucas never reported it, no one would know unless they watched his disgusting mukbangs he performs as a mating call.

I go back and forth with Myrna - it’s hard to imagine what kind of person I would be if my child ended up like Lucas. However, when people reached out to her about Lucas trying to groom 15 year olds years ago ( it was a catfish, but still) she lashed out at the girl rather than accept it for what it was. That’s one position I could personally never take - defending pedophilic behaviors and grooming. Family to me or not.

And there’s not much legally she can do to my knowledge. It’s not like she can drag him by the ear to the loony bin and go “This ones fucked in the head and needs to live here for the rest of his life”. I know he has a payee, but I’m assuming nobody has power of attorney over him. He’s *just* sane enough and not a complete invalid that someone can’t house him anywhere against his will. So what are her options? He can live with her, which anyone can understand why that would be undesirable considering he’s allegedly not allowed around younger family members. Or she can shell out thousands of dollars a year at fancy homes for the inept knowing that at any given moment he can get himself kicked out. Then you have to pick his ass up and find him a new place to live, move him in, shell out thousands again, and have him end up right back on the street.
She’s an asshole and a huge part of the reason he is the way he is, but she can only do so much before going bankrupt via her deranged adult sons quest for teen poon.
