The funniest thing about the Cris thing is online trolls managed to trick the entire NY comedy scene, not just Seth. Cris would be telling comics and other people that it wasn't him, they'd go "sure thing bud" but behind his back still think he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar and was lying to save face.
well in that case I guess I feel bad for cris italia, taking shit for it. but at least he was vindicated when Simons was hoisted on his own re-tard

I like to think that I'm a fair person, so I'll post this.

Probably the first time I've completely agreed with Pat on anything. I wonder why he doesn't use the same logic against his SFWA pedophile friends, or against serial predator/rapist Joe Biden, but this at least indicates that Pat has a semblance of a moral compass.

Amazing, once in a blue moon, stopped clock, etc. Imagine being that fucking idiot defending child sex trafficking.

Not sure if any legitimate trainer recommends tacos and liquor after a lifting session, but then again I'm not an expert. His computer is also at the bar, because of course it is.

Here it sounds like Pat is bashing his publisher for not marketing his books more? Tweeted twice so it can go viral (it doesn't).

More channeling the Movieblob. If it turned out they were long lost twins I wouldn't bat an eye.

There has to be so much more to this situation. And it's not enough that his ex-wife has a new partner either. That would not be sufficient justification for the court to agree to just suspending parental rights.
I think I vaguely remember Jon saying how the legal process was long and complicated, and Piggy dragged his feet through every step of the way. That Jon & Ade simply adopting the child would have made things so much easier, but because she's a biological parent and he isn't they had to figure something else out.

Honestly? When Pat sees you as his "enemy" he has to "win". Most parents can reach a compromise for the sake of the child, Pat probably cared more about his smug superiority complex. "Oh, do the lawyers think we have a deal? We do not. I have altered the deal. Pray I do not alter it further." He'd rather pretend to be Darth Vader and let someone else raise his kids.

Then again, session after session, wasting everyone's time all because he gets a thrill out of "punishing" Ade & Jon. Eventually the state got tired of his childish piggy games, Ade & Jon said they'd legally care for the child, and Patrick could sign off with no parental rights or child support. Which of course was a win for Patrick. More money for booze, and when his daughter turned 18 she'd come crawling back to him.

I think that's realistic and perfectly in line with Patrick's "I don't understand the court system" character.
I imagine the situation was probably similar to what we are currently seeing with Ethan Ralph's custody dispute: Fatrick didn't want the kid in his life because that would mean more responsibilities that he can't afford. He however couldn't stand his ego taking a hit and wanted to get back at his ex so he fought her and her bull every step of the way.

How he managed to actually get the rights terminated I have no idea. If there was a more serious charge levied against Pat I am sure we would see some document of it. Perhaps the state eventually caught on to his schtick and cornered Pat until they offered him his only way out of the mess he had created. At the end of the day most legal matters in the area of divorce and custody disputes aren't so much about what laws are on the books but more about what deals the lawyers are cutting with each other.

The biggest and most accomplished publishers are just now figuring out people are buying fake followers. If you need an example why fiction publishing deserves to be nuked even before journalism here it is.

Publishers rarely advertise books or magazines anywhere. Unless you're picking up the short story magazines chances are you're not going to know a new book came out unless you went to a bookstore. It's not really their job to spend the money to advertise your product anyways. The manufactures who make the toys for Hasbro don't need to do it, its no different for the publishers. Get out and advertise your own work. There's a reason why publishers give you free copies of your books. It's not just to sign them for book meetups, it's to also send them out to reviewers for free press. You can go from top 1000 to top 100 with a single reviewer. Those people are your advertisers.

Issue isn't the publishers, it's social media.

If you're gonna start defending the sterling decision making capabilities of publishers in a Rick thread you're picking a weird hill to die on.
I know how publishers think and work. It's not their fault Rick is a moron and posts his hot takes on Twitter. That's on him and Twitter. I don't blame Paizo for Jessica Price for being a shit human, I blame that on Price.

I'm talking about using subscriber counts as a metric for popularity dude, I'm not talking about takes you do or do not disagree with. The point is publishers are just figuring out people buy Twitter followers. If you know how publishers think and have unique insight then it is very ironic you are missing this point.

They really don't care what their authors do on Twitter or social media for that matter. You're a commodity that's all. I don't know why that's so hard to understand for you. I get it though, you hate Rick and don't want to look into why businesses do the things they do or say the things they say. Just shit takes, just like Rick.

The thing is journalism of some sort is actually needed, even if the people have to do it themselves. Not another word of fiction needs to be written ever, and you could read nothing but novels by people who are long-dead and never run out of reading material. Fiction, in a word, is nearly irrelevant at this point, just an intellectual property farm for Hollywood to make films.

It's Hollywood that needs to be nuked if anything.

This isn't consistent with my experience. Publishers of authors with a significant internet footprint do care what their authors put out on social media. They'll get on your ass for not doing enough to promote your work, never mind sabotaging it with snark.

In any case, that wasn't Rekkington's point.

I feel like this whole conversation as to if publishers care about their authors social media would be applicable to a, you know, talented author. The more successful an author is, the more willing people are to put up with their bullshit, because money.

You know exactly what you get with Patrick. Shitty sci-fi stories full of unreadable exposition, and a pandering twitter-obsessed firebrand who'll spit out a "BTW, buy my books!" tweet if he goes "viral". If he slips up and goes "viral" the wrong way, drop his ass and never look back.

Of course this is all conditional on Patrick having a publisher, which he does not. Turns out being a shitty author with crippling mental illness and extreme emotional baggage isn't exactly an enticing option.

Please, tell us more about yourself. You know you want to. Really crowbar it in.

Didn't patrick get his last trilogy deal mostly off the back of his political firebranding on twitter? He is the poster child for that entire article.
