General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I notice that I pretty much only watch Ame exclusively these days, but I have a question for anyone who wants to answer:

How many vtubers do you watch regularly? And did it decrease or increase since you started?
Pretty much just Calli, and then Kronii and Mumei if they're collabing or singing. I'll watch Gura or Ame if they're playing something other than Minecraft or Pokemon. I've been enjoying Pippa streams more and more lately for the comfy background schizo rants. The number has stayed roughly the same but I've stopped watching anyone from vshojo or associated with them all of whom I watched regularly last year

I only get about 5-6 hours a day on my computer a day so I watch whoever happens to be streaming when I am on. but Ina Gura and Tenma take priority over all others, in that order.

The guy made that joke came up with the idea when he realized Chloe is singing Connect with her cutesy voice instead of her deeper natural one. He then realized that deeper voice is kind of similar with Alice. Suffice to say now I want to see Chloe singing Irony with her deeper voice now

Wait, are the jpbros calling Ame as Watchama? Because of Haachama? That's actually hilarious

Not too worried though. Chloe is a good singer but not to the level like I'd imagine Alice would be (considering she sang professionally for many years).
JP bros had been calling Ame as Watchama since day 1 when she injected viewers with that Watson's concoction.

I actually want Chloe turn out to be Alice to be honest. I was fan of ClariS since Oreimo's Irony. They are the first Vsinger after all.

If Chloe turns out to be Alice then then my rrat about why Alice never goes back to ClariS or re-debut as a solo check out. Initially, Clara said that Alice left to finish college hence she get Karen (one of their friend/classmates at some musical academy back in 2014. After that Alice never return especially when Clara revealed that they finished high school around 2014 (the same year Alice left) and 2018~2019 should be college graduation years for Alice. I imagine if Chloe/Alice want total anonymous and not agree with Sony's plan to unmask them around early to mid 2020 hence she never return.

This deep voice is pretty close to Alice.

I regularly watch Nijisanji EN (mostly Elira, Selen, Rosemi, and Reimu), Pikamee, and some Hanamori indies (mostly just Kururin). So 6 people. I also watch the other EN girls though, plus other Nijis and indies, just less regularly. I'd say the number of people I watch has remained consistent while the specific vtubers in question have changed, except Pikamee.

"I think it's just luck which ones you get." - Mumei, trying to deflect from her S-rank

She also rage-resets a lot.

Suisei, IRyS, Gura, Mumei and Kronii karaoke have priority over other types of streams. The first two are easier for me to catch live, but otherwise no particular order. After that I'll watch karaoke from any Holomem who can sing or any Holomem playing a game I'm interested in, from any branch. Most live watched time is probably Reine, because she hits these criteria more often (plus time zones and language). Sometimes I'll watch Suisei as background noise even when I don't care about the game and can't speak Japanese. The Hololive bias is because I find talking about them more interesting, and I have a better idea of what to expect when I tune in.

The number increased since I started, but I only "started" a few months ago.

Huh, Towa is doing an unarchived karaoke. I guess the doomposting about unarchived is overblown?
That, and Calli's jazz karaoke just popped up as a scheduled stream. I think the change to Youtube hasn't fully rolled out yet and so they're not pulling emergency brakes.

Edit: I did not know I needed Towa to sing Japanese Disney songs until this moment.

Kiara's computer problems evidently came from her not being up on cyber security and she was getting hacked. Whoever did it just leaked her new dress!

Wait, hold the rrat folks. Towa have been singing Japanese songs instead of English ones on her unarchived stream, its still possible the copyright problems still exist
This stream certainly will have some implications as far as the rrats go:
- She's singing mostly JP songs
- But some of them are JP versions of Disney songs, not sure if that matters
- She's sung some English, but only acapella, no backing instrumentals
- The stream is monetized, even though it's unarchived

Oh... Moona just showed up, and Towa noticed her and invited her (in her best English) to sing together in the future.
Pardon me, my heart is melting and can't pump enough oxygen to my brain to try to figure out the copyright and DMCA implications anymore.

If any Japanese song would cause them problems when archived, it's Disney songs. Missed Moona's visit, RIP me.

Mumei: If I were good at math I wouldn't be doing what I do.

she said something about Hololive getting some sort of 'subscriptions' to music studios for karaoke rights, so yeah it seems like the days of unarchived karaoke might be over

Selen, Reimu, Gura and a handful of indies are the ones I will try and catch live or add to my watch later list. The amount I'm subbed too has gone up since I started, but outside of my main ones I really only watch others if they're playing a game that I'm interested in or nobody else is on and I need background noise.

The diabetes is strong in this one. Too fucking cute.
Also...water balloon physics.

The booba physics are pretty distracting. I know everyone likes their jiggly boobs, but they are too much. I first noticed just how bad it was with Kronii, but Calli and Ame both got it going on now too.

I liked everything about the outfit except the beehive. And then in the end Nabi managed to outdo herself again. Long hair Ame hits different for sure.

Can't wait for the uninspired Ina and Gura outfits.

I really hope Gura's got an Atlantean outfit like this and not just a plain party dress. Something similar would be awesome.

does it matter? she'll probably use it like two times before shelfing it for 9 out of 10 streams

From her comments, it sounded like she didn't get much input into her previous outfit (and thus kind of implying she didn't really like it), but with this one she did. So hopefully she'll like it better and use it more, as well as having a competent rigger... Or we'll just be back to the shark hoodie again FOREVER.

Nice to see the ClariS love here, especially for Alice. Like you said, they kind of were ahead of their time as vSingers (or maybe pngSingers)! Similar to others, I first learned of them from Irony, but some of their non-anime-related tracks turned out to be my favorites - Drop, Flower, Zutto, etc.

The talk of who you watch got me thinking about how I started watching, with who, and when I fell down the rabbit hole. Thanks to the wonders of youtube watch history, it looks like the first clips I watched of a vtuber were of Gura on january 7, 2021. I could have swore I had started before the new year, but I can't find any vtuber content from before then through December 2020, so I think that was it!

After watching a ton of clips I started watching live streams of Gura mainly, with some Ame and Ina thrown in. I also got interested in Haachama during the heavy lore days early in the year, but have kind of fallen off now from watching her and rarely do anymore. When IRyS debuted I watched a bunch of her stuff, but slowed down on her too now. With Council debut I've started watching Mumei and Fauna regularly and still currently do. And now with JP gen6, Chloe is quickly moving up as well for me, and if she keep working on her EN skills I can see that continuing.

Given the above I think I've hit my limit and might have to drop back soon on some of them and prioritize. There's only so much time in the day! Especially with wife, kids, work, etc. I always prioritize IRL stuff, so I won't not do something because of a stream "conflict" (touching grass is important guys!). which is making it hard to keep up. There's VOD and nyaa for unarchived stuff, but even so... I've definitely slowed down now and Gura is pretty much the only one I try to watch everything of. The others I watch if I happen to be free or have time and/or the content (game, karaoke, etc) interests me.

I think that is pretty normal. You find vtubers and become interested enough to start falling down the rabbit hole, find what interests you (specific vtubers, games, types of streams, or just generally everything), and keep finding more. As you do you keep increasing what and who you watch until you find your limit of what you and your life can handle, or maybe overdo it a bit and hopefully recognize that and scale back.

To confuse things even further, she sang Let It Go half in English and then half in Japanese. But I'm just enjoying Towa's voice and not gonna worry about it for now, all this copyright/DMCA shit is a little over my head anyway. Or rather, not my area to weigh in on.

There will hopefully/probably be clips of her greeting Moona, I'd like to hear it again anyway lol.

Unrelated: the Pokemon streams are oversaturated to say the least, but I kinda like watching them when the VTuber is (or seems to be) brand new to the series, like Subaru and now Sora.
Had a bit of a laugh at this:

Mumei has joined Cali in her Giratina shiny hunt stream. Mumei seams to know a bit about ivs and evs so she may be one to look out for in the tournament. I wonder if any of the hololivers are going to be degenerate enough to run stealth rocks
