The Final Fantasy Thread

So how are they going to make the Snowboarding Minigame overstay it's welcome?

The Bike segments were not bad but I spent hours getting Cloud's Box breaking Minigame and Yuffie's box breaking minigame to be entirely done with a perfect score. Fort Condor could be easily broken with flying units and guard dogs but I still went through with collecting all the pieces and boards.
Box breaking wasn't that bad for me since I used that evade attack materia, that shit destroyed small boxes instantly.

Who knows how they'll handle snowboarding, it was kinda weird even in the original game. They might just omit that in favor of the party trudging through the tundra if they decide on a more open world format for future installments (or maybe they'll go for a more linear format ala FFX).

Has there been any news or rumors yet of the next part? It's been over a year already, surely progress has been made.

One thing I appreciate about the Remake is that they do their damnedest to make sure it looks as good as possible, which forces it into the "Good and Cheap" end of the pyramid. So expect another installment in 5 years or more.

Pretty sure there was, but this is Square Enix we're talking about. So don't hold your breath.
Yeah, I have to wonder if switching to Unreal Engine 5 would render all of their progress with Part 1 moot.

Or will they throw a curve ball and switch to an entirely different engine for shits & giggles? Time will tell...

Welp, I finally finished Final Fantasy VII for the first time, and with it, at long last played through an entire FF title. Granted, I was using the god-mode PS4 cheats, as I am a *****-*** poor excuse for a "gamer".

I gotta say, I can now finally see why this game was such a beloved hit, and why it is regarded as an all-time classic. Even with the cheats on, I was still utterly captivated by every minute detail of the experience, and the ending was especially epic as all can get. It is a game from a time when these sorts of games were made with heart and soul, where just as much love went into the gameplay and characters as did the presentation, and where big budgets for development and marketing were reserved only for a select few releases that warranted such funding. Such titles we don't get to see much of anymore, which is unfortunate.

Not sure what else to say, other than that it is easily now one of my all-time favorite video games, and I look forward to seeing what direction the Remakes are going to follow. It's definitely a title that has stood the test of time.

Thoughts on it? What other entries in the FF series are good? I heard IV, VI, IX, and X are also well liked. For that matter, should I even bother with checking out the infamous Compilation Of Final Fantasy VII?

Go with 6 or 9. Five is also good if you want a lighter game with a leaner story. Don’t bother with the compilation. The compilation isn’t simply bad it’s basically as unlike FF7 as it could possibly be. And a lot of the original story and lore gets muddled up if not outright retconned.

My favorites that I actually finished were IV (not the 3D version though, that sucked), VI, VII, X, and Tactics. All are good to excellent both story and gameplay-wise, although IV is kind of dated now. I also liked VIII because of the story even though the gameplay is weird and broken (I'm weird, I know). I, IX, X-2, and XII were OK. I had a love-hate relationship with the XI (the first MMO) that went on for many years, but I don't have time for MMOs now and probably never will again. I did finish most but not all of the main storylines however. I liked V, Tactics Advance, and Tactics A2 but never finished them for various reasons; FFV is all gameplay, but the story is pretty basic and didn't hold my interest; the Tactics sequels have a specific mechanic (learning abilities from equipment, and making the equipment from random drops) that I hate and the RNG always screwed me out of the abilities I wanted.

III (3D version) never caught my interest (ugly graphics, basic boring story, gameplay wasn't interesting) and I dropped it very early in. II and XIII are garbage and I dropped them after trying way too hard to make them work (about 15-25 hours each). XIV (the second MMO) didn't catch my interest and I don't have time for it anyway. I hate the slick, overly-designed, over-simplified, overly-balanced frequently-changing "themepark" WoW gameplay and (again for balance reasons), it has the most boring itemization ever; I hear the story gets good later on but I don't have the time to find out. FF7CC told me that I suck hard at action RPGs so I never even tried XV and will likewise give XVI a miss as well.

You ought to play tactics next if only for certain cameos you'll see in it assuming you unlock the event. Otherwise try 6 and 10.

I also got a PS5 for Christmas, so I may now finally try out the FFVII Remake Integrade title. Now that I now exactly why the original is such a masterpiece, I think it'll be interesting to see what new direction they're gonna go with it.

I’m not too picky about frame rates as long as it runs, so should I get FF7 remake on fortnite store or should I just wait for the steam release?

And what is the average FPS?

Square just literally delayed all their games including Dragon Quest 10, it might be corona related, but 16 has been pushed back to possibly holidays of next year because it's now TBA with a mid year announcement around June.

Dragon Quest 10 has been pushed to Summer of 2022 and that shit was nearly done.

Man, that just makes me more anxious for the VII Remake, because now that I know what all happens in the original, I can't wait to see the new spin on those older events. Call me insane, but the fact that it is going in a different direction has me intrigued.

At the very least square finally explained why there wasn’t a trailer this year as they’d promised, but the whole covid thing is a bad excuse. I doubt it was really that. Seems like a scapegoat for developers.
