Because trooning out is socially acceptable and protects her credibility. If she were just a normal anorexic, she'd be hauled off to therapy or even inpatient treatment rather than a guest role on national TV. Even after she got out friends and family would probably be thinking "is she really OK or is that still her ED talking" whenever the subject of food came up. But because she's a True and Honest Man, she can shoot down any concerns about her likely ED with "I did that because of my gender dysphoria and only getting butchered can help me" and modern WPATH guidelines mean she doesn't even need to be on T to get a trans diagnosis, change her driver's license to "male", or get further surgeries. This also gives her a pass on the drug problem she claims to have had while homeless after her family kicked her out. I realize psychiatry and addiction counseling are less exact than other fields of medicine but that doesn't mean we can just say "the dysphoria caused everything else, end of story" without something to back it up.

Exulansic covered Jessica/Noah's discussion of her issues with her family in one of the "I am Jazz's Waking Nightmare" videos and thought there might be more to the story because Jessica's reaction was too emotional for the context. I agree there is probably something we aren't being told but we're never going to hear it because painting herself as a victim like this allows Jessica to dodge any probing questions.

I think it may tie into the whole childlike look that some girls with EDs are into. There's the belief that if they lose their breasts, hips, ect. that they will no longer receive unwanted male attention. A large percent of women develop EDs as a trauma response to childhood sexual abuse, and starving themselves or binging and purging allows for them to regain a feeling of control and agency over their own bodies.

As said before, trooning out provides a "valid" excuse for ED behavior. You're no longer starving yourself as a form of self harm, you're doing it to pass better! And you're not vomiting 10k+ calories worth of food because you have a deep hatred for your body, but because it affirms your gender and gives you "euphoria"!

A lot of EDs come from the wish to not grow up and take responsibilities associated to womanhood: period, sex, motherhood. This is the absolute disavowal of femininity: becoming a man.

This is not the first time in this thread someone has brought up Jazz seeing Jeanette naked like that alone is something damaging. Jeanette has damaged Jazz by lacking good boundaries and not knowing when to shut up, but I still think Jazz would have been okay if the family hadn't invited the Gender Ogres into the house when he was a little boy.
