The Final Fantasy Thread

Seriously, Cloud's tale could be seen as an early version of what Metal Gear Solid 2 and Bioshock would later be acclaimed for. Heck, I was having huge flashbacks to the latter's most famous moment.

It really was ahead of its time and still relevant even now. There's a reason why, after finally finishing it, it became one of my all time top favorite games.

Unless I'm wrong, blue-green is his normal eye color, it's the glow that signifies he's a "SOLDIER". After the Nibelheim incident, Hojo saw some sort of potential in Could and decided to experiment on him (and Zack). So Cloud didn't exactly get the same Mako treatment, but it was close enough and maybe a little something extra, as Hojo was always keen on trying to "improve" his experiments. Tifa didn't actually know he wasn't in SOLDIER, but had some suspicions when his story didn't add up. And yes, Aeris likely knew fairly early on that he lying and, but never said anything because... She's Aeris.
Right, right. I believe they made that little something extra part canon in the Remake given Cloud's odd flashback in the Underground as well as Hojo's remarks about him. He notices and remembers Cloud specifically during their initial encounter in the Shinra building labs and says something along those lines I can't quite recall. I'm guessing since he's already having Advent Child style spasms and Sephiroth hallucinations it was JENOVA cells in an attempt to recreate the success that was Sephiroth.

IIRC all SOLDIERS had Jenova cells. It's why most of them turn into monsters. By "improve" I meant that Hojo probably altered the "normal" experiment procedures because Hojo isn't that great of a scientist and has a more 'throw everything against a wall and see what sticks then go from there' approach. See Vincent's entire schtick.

All I know about his schtick is that he turns into a Hollywood slasher villain when he limit breaks. Really, it was years ago and I think I barely made it to the part where Cid takes over before losing interest. But you're not wrong about Hojo. Still, whatever he did to Cloud worked, or at least worked well enough.

There's a reason for his aloof manner manner early on. I never got far enough in FFVII proper but apparently from what this thread has mentioned he never actually was a proper SOLDIER and so he merely acts like how he thinks a SOLDIER should act thanks to Sephiroth being a total douchenozzle, but eventually he drops the facade and goes from the virgin SOLDIER wanna-be to the CHAD SNOWBOARDER. I also vaguely recall a lot of the promotional art (at least in the USA) from the time of the initial PSX release having Cloud be a lot more chiseled like you'd expect from a guy who carries a heavier sword than Guts' around than his more modern, softer AC/Remake look.
And @Coldgrip thanks for spoilering. I won't be reading the spoilered part because I probably will go and play FF7 one day. Perhaps even when I finish the FF7 remake, cuz from what I understand, the remake only contains around 1/5 or less of the full game.

And I know everybody is crazy about Aerith, but I have to say Jessie is much hotter to me. And her last name is Raspberry which is just silly and funny.

About 1/4th. Overall, I don't think they did a bad job on the remake. It's got it's rough spots with the combat, and that's not even getting into the lore.

Tifa is best in FF7Remake. Jessie just comes across as some thirsty thot.

Yeah, I almost forgot about Tifa. She is the best, but Jessie is a close second. I am very fond of thirsty thots, so that part doesn't bother me.
I hope that with the time jannies gone, Wedge's body not found, and Biggs alive in the orphanage we finally get that pizza she owes Cloud.

He gets a coupon for pizza but only you the player can redeem it IRL.

Kind of like the Soulsborne games that give you a key with no door to unlock.

I finished lightning returns and it was certainly much different from the other games in the trilogy. Very unique. Bhunivelze was hilariously easy, something I didn’t expect because I heard he was obnoxiously hard. I actually had more trouble trying to kill the earth eater in one of the trials than Bhunivelze. This made me drop the trials and go in without the ultima gear because of this motherfucker. Yeah, random enemy in front of a door was harder than God himself. Kinda reminds me of FFXIII-2. Proto Behemoth was harder than Caius.

Anyway, cool game. I’m continuing FFVIII.

The time mechanic always put me off trying LR, I like to faff around and take my time so didn't think I'd enjoy being rushed. Or is it not much of an issue?

I hate time limits too, but Chronostasis is a mechanic that allows you to temporarily freeze time, and fortunately the game is pretty liberal with it. You just have to make sure to use it whenever you can. Granted, this is coming from someone who has yet to finish the game, but the time limit is made less stressful thanks to this.

I’ve just come to a revelation kiwis, as to why FF7 remake deals with so much time bullshit.

Anyway, in other news. FF7 porn was played in an Italian senate meeting... apparently.

Being a pornographic spectacle is quite fitting.

This won't be popular but it should kickstart discussion that isn't just explaining the plot

Since people seem to be deciding things without having played the Remake imo Tifa was *bad* in the Remake. Has nothing to do, doesn't even have the chance to foreshadow anything (how her do-nothing attitude is usually justified). Big victim of the divided plotlines. Which is why I think it's hard to pretend her appeal isn't cup size related. Especially after the Italian senate. It is Tifa of course as Zeke kindly put it.

And I also think the need to give her so much screen time of dubious merit hurt the Remake. Not just her but she did also receive the most embellishment, and none of it went anywhere. In fact it went less than nowhere because it primarily built a sterile rapport between her and Cloud that's just going to be reworked later on. Apparently, his flirtations with her are also based on things he inherited from Zack, so this isn't even a preview of what they're like as a couple.

A big reason criticism of the Remake never goes anywhere is that the majority of fans favor Tifa and so they're less willing to say the obvious: too much time is given to characters with no sense of urgency or priority in this first part of the game. And she's a big recipient, The typical rationalization is that Tifa is important later, which is true, but the original conveyed that with only a few minutes with her. And none of the extra stuff she and Cloud have are germane to why she's important later.

Barrett's worldview is relevant early on for context to Avalanche, Tifa is relevant to keep Cloud involved but it's really just to establish that they have a history that's trickier than it seems, then after that it's really only Cloud and Aeris who matter for this first part (and will see some payoff in this first part). But for some reason deference to equal time is given to all. But Tifa and Barrett's payoffs aren't for a while so we can always return to reestablish these things, and they're overall less important. They don't need equal time. Currently they're also only about furthering what Avalanche is about. Which we actually never learn much about. The time spent on them and the other members isn't well used, in addition to being gratuitous.

And yes, Aeris likely knew fairly early on that he lying and, but never said anything because... She's Aeris.
lol no. likely. There is actually no basis to think that, they just cut a scene where Tifa confides in Aeris somewhere after Corel.
People who say this also tend to believe Disc 1 Cloud acts like and has the same feelings as Zack, which isn't true. So they also turn Aeris' character on a dime so that she'd let something bad persist because it benefits her. Even when she does address it as directly as she can on their Saucer Date.
You're also assuming Aeris would let an issue stand unaddressed when she's a blabbermouth. It's Tifa who does jack shit about it until it's unavoidable.
