The Final Fantasy Thread

There's a reason for his aloof manner manner early on. I never got far enough in FFVII proper
well this explains your bad takes about the two girls. IIRC it was that Tifa handles her problems and Aerith is a passive victim of them. Pretty much the opposite of the case.

I know stating the fact that Aeris is the more conscientious gf and the proactive one who actually pushes the plot along might be unpopular here but at least I've played the game.
And frankly, this thread could use some juicing.
And I know everybody is crazy about Aerith, but I have to say Jessie is much hotter to me. And her last name is Raspberry which is just silly and funny.
Yeah, I almost forgot about Tifa. She is the best, but Jessie is a close second. I am very fond of thirsty thots, so that part doesn't bother me.
Tifa is the most popular actually. She has the design to get all the 85 to 95 IQ gamers, and is involved in an interesting enough subplot that she gets the 96-120 iq gamers too. That's like all the gamers.

But of course the descriptions she often receives for her appeal are astoundingly banal and bifurcated.

Pretty much every discussion of Tifa's merits lets aesthetics overrun the substance. It's why people who never picked up the game think she's the sassy badass but keep liking her when she's really the demure wallflower (with fists). Because what she does or doesn't do never mattered.

And then on the other extreme you have people who like her for her genuine talents and merits but also tend to be tumblristas who resent any notion her looks play a big role in her appeal.

She's like a canvas. It's good character design/writing in that way.

They seem to be including all the bosses and even made reference to the ending sequence of the original.

It looks more appealing than it did that it's not just a shallow imitation with a different genre slapped over it. It feels like a weird re-imaging like what one would attempt to make a movie out of the original game. Like what the Live Action Mario movie did for Super Mario.

lol no. likely. There is actually no basis to think that, they just cut a scene where Tifa confides in Aeris somewhere after Corel.
People who say this also tend to believe Disc 1 Cloud acts like and has the same feelings as Zack, which isn't true. So they also turn Aeris' character on a dime so that she'd let something bad persist because it benefits her. Even when she does address it as directly as she can on their Saucer Date.
You're also assuming Aeris would let an issue stand unaddressed when she's a blabbermouth. It's Tifa who does jack shit about it until it's unavoidable.
You forget that Aeris hears things, and knows when a soul returns to the planet.

First with the FFX furry thirst article and now this. Kotaku needs to chill with the horny.

Technically true. I did forget. But only because the resolution is pretty dumb.
That was just a plot hole originally. They retconned it to Zack's soul never returning, instead lingering like a phantom, hence why she could "revive him" in AC and stuff.
Is it stupid? Oh yes. But at least they don't have to explain why she brings him back but not her mom & dad.

In the OG she's shocked and distraught he never regained contact with his parents so she didn't know he died. I think the subtext is she closed herself off from hearing the planet to hide her Cetra-ness. But that's pure conjecture.

To be fair, when you look at most of the major plot points in the FF7 story, they seem kinda dumb. As in, some basic communication could of prevented this shit from going so sideways, kind of dumb.

Final Fantasy Origin looks fun. As soon as the demo came out and I heard Limp Bizkit I was sold. It’s like a comedy to final fantasy just like code Veronica is to resident evil.

A bit late to mention it, but Final Fantasy VII has officially turned 25 years old.

Not sure if I'm allowed to say this, being someone who only just finished it one month before it turned that age, but I truly do believe that it has stood the test of time and earned its reputation of being a masterpiece. Heck, after finishing it for the first time last month, it easily became one of my all time favorite video games period, right up there with other favorites of mine like Zelda Breath Of The Wild, Metal Gear Solid 2, Nier Automata, Devil May Cry 3, Shadow Of The Colossus, Deus Ex, Doom, Call Of Duty 4, etc.

Thoughts on it? Where does it rank for you, if it even does?

I discovered it last year. It's now my favorite game and I will always love it. It deserves the praise it gets 10000%

I'd say it's maybe a 9.0/10, it's certainly an extremely good game, but it's paced very weirdly, and the story's always been hard to wrap my head around. The first six hours of the game are spent in Midgar and are solid as a rock, 10/10 all around, but once you leave, you get a massive dump of backstory exposition, and the game's pacing slows to a crawl, slowly picking up over the course of the entire rest of the game.

That's about the only bad thing I have to say about it, at least, off the top of my head. It is very easily the best PS1 game, has always been my second favorite Final Fantasy game, and will always be a must-play for anyone that likes JRPGs
