I'm sure they'll have some lies episode where they declare that they've been spewing nonsense to further a narrative, but it seems good so far.

It always boggles my mind their lies videos are longer than the actual episodes in their series.

Winston Churchill, didn't start writing until he lost Britain to the Labour Party, who were dismantling the Empire he loved so much at record speed.

Always wondered how Churchill felt about that. He put the whole Empire in war to defend it and got to watch it all crumble as Attlee and subsequent PMs hastily dismantled it at the behest of America.

Churchill should have seen it coming really. Old FDR and his cronies never made it a secret that they wanted to dismantle the British Empire and planned on doing so after the war. The Atlantic Charter basically set the groundwork for it.

I've seen this point presented convincingly once from Dr. Kenneth Harl talking about Byzantium- "Historians write history because they can't do politics", citing Anna Comnenos and Thucydides as examples. IMO on an inter-cultural level history gets written by the victors because they tend to have better access to education and publishing networks, or outright destroy their enemies' writings like the Romans did to Carthage. But within a culture it's written by the losers, because the victors are busy actually doing things. Most Imperial Roman history was written by Senators who hated the Imperial system, & even the most blatant example of the victor writing history, Winston Churchill, didn't start writing until he lost Britain to the Labour Party, who were dismantling the Empire he loved so much at record speed.

There was a time when Historians dominated government. Got some stinkers like Wilson, but overall the progressive era in the USA and Liberal era in Britain were pretty good. Austria-Hungary going nuts and pushing a minor incident into a World War was hardly their fault.

The dumbest argument that they make in this video is that mass produced tanks like the Sherman and T-34 require exponentially more infrastructure and supplies to maintain than the small number artisanally crafted German tanks.

The whole point of these tanks is that that they were so simple and the parts so numerous that repairing them was easy. They were cheap to build and maintain. Having tanks along the entirety of your line is a pretty great advantage and the Allies could afford to maintain that huge cost. However, mass production itself significantly reduced that cost and the allies even stopped producing tanks because they had too many.

They also look at the tanks outside of their doctrine. Early German tanks and later Allied tanks both existed to fight infantry. In the early war the Germans used air power to destroy tanks and the Allies did the same in the latter part of the war. Tanks supported infantry. Comparing combat specs alone is very shallow.

Fair enough. I do feel like he’s teetering on the edge of an explosive meltdown (all the pieces in place). Again, he should EVENTUALLY get a thread, but until then, I’m keeping an eye on him.

Churchill would've had to have known it was inevitable, he was PM throughout the war and he knew how stretched the Empire was at the time both in terms of food and basic goods and military equipment.

There's a reason why the US got to keep so many WW2 ships around after the war and even make some into museum ships whereas the UK had to scrap most of theirs, let alone maintain any as museums for future generations.

Two world wars was simply too much for the British to bear, even though they walked away as winners they had been mortally wounded in terms of retaining their empire; this would be firmly driven home in the 1950s with the Suez Crisis when Eisenhower told France and the UK to fuck off.

tbh TIK is easily my favorite youtuber/history youtuber ( granted I am an Ancap ), dude makes wonderful content and puts tons of effort into his work without making stupid takes. God Bless Him

TIK is my man. That guy's alright. And, unlike almost the entirety of Historytube, he actually cites his sources, including first party sources, and does it in the video. As someone who actually studied history, its actually quite appreciated.

I simply like TIK for the fact he makes Redditors soyrage.
