Piece of shit software - Crappy software/apps/programs that make you MATI

don't get me started on GeForce Expierence trying to make me log in to update the drivers for my PAID FOR GPU
Yeah, that's some serious bullshit. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea.

Fortunately you can solve that problem by ripping out the shitty consumer drivers and installing the studio drivers instead. No automated update checks, no logins, no "really a beta test but we're pretending it's stable" buggy releases every few days, same performance and functionality as the consumer drivers, plays all the same games and runs all the same 3D programs, no GeForce Experience.

It's nice not having to deal with weekly updates and that other garbage.

Same with Radeon, studio drivers might not have all the performance tweaks but meh.

Last time I used Nvidia(couple of years ago) you could opt out of the GFExperience upon installation in the "custom" or "advanced" options.

Every single shit-ass modern game that doesn't allow you to pick sound device and default monitor. God, why can't a single developer include a Quake-style in-game console where you can change these things. They can keep their useless barren normie options menus, just give me a damn console.

Soon enough, you'll pay monthly for the GeForce experience to be able to use the GPU, and as soon as you end your service, your GPU will lock and refuse to run.

but then what about steam achievos?

I'm genuinely fucking surprised they haven't shoveled the "GeyForce Experience" into their linux drivers yet. I would have expected it well before now but it's now 2022 with no sign of that coming yet. That said new pc is amd because fuck nvidias bullshit.

That's the crazy part. Qt is absurdly customizable. Just look at this fucking abomination:

That's the official Qt installer (on all supported platforms), built with Qt. You can apply "skins" to elements or the entire toolkit at build time or runtime, and if that's not enough you can literally override every aspect of the rendering of every widget using class delegates to change absolutely everything about your UI's appearance.

Then there's Qt Quick which uses a declarative language (QML, I think) to produce UI layouts instead of the "classic" C++ Qt UI mechanisms (though the C++ widgets are just as flexible). QML widgets are similarly customizable:

(god MacOS is so fucking ugly; even the window decorations look stupid)

Five minutes of lazy searching didn't turn up anything concrete as to which toolkit Valve uses for the Steam client, though given how slow the god damn thing is I sincerely doubt it's using Qt. If you're not a pajeet, it's hard work to make a Qt program that's as sluggish as Steam is. Similarly I have no clue what any of the other launchers are using, but given how lethargic they all seem I suspect they've mostly just standardized on some kind of webshit garbage like Electron and loaded them all up with megabytes of unnecessary Javascript.

Maybe they don't use Qt because they're too miserly to pay for a commercial license to use it in their products, but for one thing I'm fairly sure you can still use it for free for commercial applications under most conditions and for another it's not like it's super-expensive and these companies have more money than god anyway. I think it's more likely they don't use it because they don't have enough developers competent enough to work with it.

Bleh. Desktop developers are a dying breed, I fear. Skilled people who still know how to use C/C++ proficiently to produce fast tools and GUI applications are becoming harder to find these days. Even on /g/ it's become way too common to see idiots mocking C/C++ for application development and promoting fad languages like rust and go or even webshit.

Oh well. I like job security anyway :)
Truth be told. Those are some of the better abbominations. If you really want to see hell you should look up themes for icewm or xfce on pling or whatever. Actual eldritch horrors.

Here's one for icewm.

Edit- I didn't realized I double posted. Apologies.

Christ, the window manager ricers were the absolute fucking worst. Probably still are. Ugly fucking fonts, clashing colors mixed with grey-text-on-grey-background window titles, transparent terminals on top of busy backgrounds that make the console a pain in the ass to read, theme colors that manage to match absolutely nothing else in the UI (like in the above example, the burning-bright red somehow simultaneously clashes with all the icons in the task bar at the bottom while also "blurring" them together and making them indistinct) ... and fucking anime. Can't forget the waifu autism.

Fucking old-school CDE looked better, and that god damn thing screamed "1980's."

At this point they might as well lean all the way into it and go full Hot Dog Stand.

Fucking Windows Me.

1. The last Microsoft OS to be built on MS-DOS, yet without the ability to actually boot into DOS mode.
2. Unstable as all hell.
3. Stupid fucking name

It's 2022, so nobody runs this still, right? Nope. My mother's church, run by nobody under the age of 70, has a Windows Me machine in the back that's used to create and print the weekly bulletin. I help them with technical issues every once in a while since I live nearby. Every time I work with this machine I feel the need to commit several sins right then and there. Frequent bugchecks, the shell just *not* responding to clicks every once in a while, printing not functioning...it's bad. They don't want to buy a new computer because of the cost and the fact that they'd have to learn something new, but I'm tempted to just buy it and teach them if it'd save me from working with this shitty OS on a semi-regular basis. Of course, then I'd just be dealing with 70+ year-olds and their new woes of more modern Windows operating systems, so that's not really a solution.

Fucking Windows Me.

Stable "just works" window manager with some of the worst nostalgic aesthetics ever. I can handle the Motif theme, I can't stand these dollar store metallic gradients, and of course there's the issue of modern flat UI which makes IceWM an even bigger eyesore unfairly.

Apparently Outlook is employing a politically correct software to 'curate' all emails.

No longer can you say 'mankind' and 'master'. Now you say 'humankind' and 'white craka piece of shit'.
is there a comprehensive source on this? I wouldn't doubt Microsoft is barely gonna say what this does, but it would be nice to see before people can test it.

RetroArch. (Excuse the stupid image that follows.)

Literally emulator communism, and just like communism, it never fucking works.

If I look at it ever so slightly too much, or if I breathe out a little bit too hard, or if it suddenly wakes up in a bad mood, or perhaps if my actual N64 console has not got the expansion pak inserted, it goes wrong for some reason.

Not to mention that emulators like ProSystem, PicoDrive, the fixed MAME/FBA/Snes9x versions, and Genesis Plus GX insist on forcing people to use this shit and not provide native ports to Win32 or any other platform, and you also have the Redditor shills who just copy things verbatim from the Emulation GameTechWiki website (which prefers to glorify anything available as a libretro core, being FOSS and cycle accurate and shun anything else regardless of whether it actually works better or the authors aren't incompetent commies or whatever).

The netplay also does not fucking work. Even with the ports forwarded on both ends, it has never managed to work.

Most of the libretro ports don't work either or are in a virtually unusable state (the Wii one for instance starts breaking apart after a while of use and the XP/Vista targeting one is not optimised for the hardware target very well at all). Only the Linux one seems to be of any real priority to them, and even then they seem to have absolutely no clue how to label stable releases other than "let's slap a number on this when a date feels convenient".

Also, why is there seemingly an inverse relationship between how sane the usability and straightforwardness of a piece of software is and the more obsessed with "muh freedom" a piece of software is?
Just use Bizhawk lol

What about Windows 8, the OS that was so shitty MS had to skip a number to get further away from it?
