Crazy how people can look at Netflix, look at Game Pass, and not really understand how GP is meant to work. Microsoft wants a huge library of games that they own outright and can offer up on their subscription without having to pay royalties to copyright holders.
Once that happens, they continue to charge $15/month to 20-30 million subscribers for a monthly revenue of $300-450 million dollars. Some of that revenue goes directly into their pocket, and some of it goes to fund new game development. Game Pass isn't meant to be some nefarious attempt to push everyone else out of the market while they hopelessly lose billions of dollars. There's a pretty clear and obvious way for them to make huge profits, and use those profits to fund new games. They're arguably in a better position that Netflix ever was, since they won't have to offer competing services on the platform they control.
Exactly.
MS doesn't want Sony out of the business. MS wants GP on Sony consoles and Sony TVs and Sony phones and etc. Just like Roku sells you a Roku branded box and third party TV's with Roku software built in.
