from what i remember listening to podcasts she was on pre-fame, she's MADtv funny but not SNL funny. I was happy to hear his show was a show promoting scientific skepticism like Penn & Teller: Bullshit, which I'm a big fan of.

The show prided itself on citing it's sources on-screen as you watch.

I watched the first episode, IIRC the first source shown on-screen was from Vox and I already knew what I was in for.

I'm not going to say i'm a fan of whitney but she's clearly an amazing comedy producer; she just ended up being sucessful in the wrong era. she should be up there with Chuck Lorre or Norman Lear or Kelsey Grammer. she's easily the best woman in comedy television. Unfortunately her own hang ups and just demographics and trends means it doesn't matter, white people aren't going to get tv shows anymore also she wants to be liked too much and its forcing her to get into podcasting when she should be more focused on working. Also she looked cute back in 2007, but she clearly wasn't 25 back then, she was clearly over 30. you can and should add a decade to her age.


As for SNL, its just too many cast members, 25 people now for a show with only 40 minutes of sketches, between the monologue and musical performances its just not enough time to showcase 25 people. There's a reason the last time the SNL cast was beloved and went on to bigger things post SNL was when it was down to 11 people in 2006-2010. Which was really 9 people because two of those were stuck doing weekend update. It used to have entire sketches where the whole cast was involved and it didn't even seem like a big deal (whats up with that being a notable one) because it wouldnt be that hard to find 9-11 parts to play. now 25 speaking roles in a sketch would seem absurd.

Its also why SNL cast members finally getting their due post-appearance is so much more common. They're letting way too many stay, it used to be rare for a cast member to stay 6 years or more. now thats below average, pete davidson has been on for a decade and probably has appeared in less sketches total than say Will Forte did in one season, and certainly less lines.

SNL is propaganda too, the opening political sketch plus weekend update means half of the show is political or musical appearances. The main problem is ratings wise its doing better than ever, highest ratings of the entire series.

For me, it's Dane Cook. Maybe it was when I was young, but the guy used to be funny. Used to be, is the major point. His routines back when I learned about him were on the point, and he used his exaggerations in the right spots from the acts and shows I caught him in. He then started to get more "edgy" later down the line, and that came off as really immature and off putting. I honestly think he didn't have anyone critique his act and style enough for him to get his shit together.

As for the lolcow part, 2010 was his downhill point. He used to have sold out tours and such, but somehow he lived his fame like it was 15 minutes. I think what killed his comedy career was his act on the Colorado theater shooting, which he did not pull off well, at all. Literally, he did it in a way that only goons from SA would find funny. He also stole jokes from other comedians too.

Not to mention, he's had movie roles, and all but one (Mr Brooks) bombed pretty hard, his worst being Good Luck Chuck where one of the posters he purposely posed as in the iconic photo that Lennon and Yoko took. His comedy, if you can call it so mostly was pretty edgy, and I only found out he even existed was during the wild west days of Youtube, where weebs fakedubbed a bunch of anime clips with his Burger King skit.

Comedians as a form of entertainment feel outdated to me in the world of Internet personalities. I’ve never found the stand up formate interesting.

I don’t think he’s a lolcow but I’ve never found John Mulaney funny. It felt like everyone in college was listening to his stand up on YouTube and I found it to be cringe. Same with Bo Burnham now.

Mark Normand and Shane Gillis both have pretty good specials for free on youtube and I say that as someone that doesn't care much for stand-up either. He's not new but I always thought Dimitri Martin was funny. I also hate John Mulaney and Bo Burnham.

Mulaney cheating on his jew wife is the funniest thing he's ever done. you're right about stand up, between the huge surge after people started posting standup on youtube theres way more hacks than good comics, no one that started post-1990s has been remotely funny. the medium was ok because pre-social media it was the closet thing to an internet personality, supposedly any weirdo could just go up and do jokes for a few minutes and succeed if they were funny enough. didn't need anything besides talent and a lack of care about having such little income.

there's a reason overall people moved from wanting to be actors to stand ups to youtubes to podcasters now. Hell look at patreon, Tim Dillon went from open micer to making more than any comedian not named kevin hart in a 9 year span. if you ask most people under 30's favorite comedians none of them are stand ups, even the under 40 they probably like someone like Mulaney or bill burr because of their sketches or late night appearances.

And thats mainly because people laugh because they like the comedian and the jokes fit a rhythm, its why early on stand ups had writers, you might not be able to win a crowd with your joke but Robin Williams could. Its also why Patrice is the rorschach of comedy. he was the only one on the planet who's integrity overrid their common sense and led to him doing the taboo shit everyone wants to do but won't. Namely calling out comedians for their hack material, he burned every bridge and despite every chance given he never sold out. Bill Burr might be the comedian but Patrice is the guy truely inspiring people way after he died. Pete Davidson is only fucking Kim Kardashian now because he started doing open mics to meet that fat child molester. if you listen pre-2016 Pete is doing his best Patrice impression everywhere he could, he chased Norm Macdonald's favorite comedians out of fucking comedy.

As i was saying stand up comedy was always about the same dogshit being an e-celeb is about only now we don't need clubs because you can just see that funny guy's tweets instead. Its also why guys who couldn't hack it as stand ups are making more money now than they would starring on some NBC sitcom. You think the Tonight Show would allow Dave Smith to chant "white power" to his thousands of fans before introducing tonight's guests Ryan Dawson and Joshua Moon?
