Well we could and we did for a long time, the major problem in the current year is the structure we live in. Nothing too complex, but just a society that has elites that want to do what they want whenever they want and people turned into consumer drones of product and propaganda with psychology and sociology judged from the lens that a person's ultimate happiness derives from comfort and luxury, a complete rejection of Maslows Hierarchy of Needs.
If people were just looked upon as biological cavemen, society could reorient itself in a way that brings meaning to people's lives. Allow for communities to form, allow for all basic needs to be met, show tangible value for labour, stop pushing social division and consumerism. If they did these things, people would feel far more comfortable.
Unless you're a sociopath, I don't believe it takes more than an owned property, a happy wife and kids, steady meaningful work, well paid work and being able to go every Friday to the Cheers style pub where you know everyone to be happy. It would also be beneficial for society as well since periods where there was more leisure time meant innovation. Instead nowadays most are in a constant state of anxiety, depression or are numb. That's just the men, women are in a completely different reality where they seem to do everything in their power to make their lives worse and are avoiding one another except to profit off it, mostly it seems to maximize the amount of attention they get until they die.
