Honestly I think the Russian elite have seen how the totalitarian system in China has developed and believe it would be possible and beneficial to them for Russia to go the same route and ally themselves with them.

This act will strengthen NATO and very possibly lead to sweeping Iran style sanctions targeting very important Russian economic sectors. Russia will respond like they did to previous lesser sanctions and impose import restrictions further cutting them off from the west.

I can see Chinese style great firewall being imposed on the Russian population in the near future.

It's far from the first time Russia has tried to accomplish these two goals, in fact those were basically their entire foreign policy pre-USSR.

There's possibly some economic stuff too but I am not as informed on that.

It is seriously not hard to understand. Russia has ALWAYS been neurotic about its border because its fucking GIGANTIC and impossible to defend every inch of it. The West (particularly the United States) pushing for Ukraine to join NATO was seen as a MAJOR act of aggression and possibly an act of war by Putin. He has constantly warned the West to back off of doing it, and they've never done it. Russia has tried to constantly fuck up Ukraine to prevent this, but this strategy was no longer working. The invasion of Crimea already restored access to the Black Sea.

This is all about Western interference and having Western military bases right on its border. This was unacceptable. Of course, the reason the US did this was for Biden to make up for a failing domestic agenda, so he basically pushed Russia into it. And of course Putin knows Biden is incredibly fucking weak, he just underestimated HOW weak. Make no mistake, Biden's weakness and goading of Russia into this is going to create all sorts of problems in the future.

Everyone is worrying about WWIII, but the Biden administration's colors have been revealed in full and will create giant foreign policy problems. All our enemies have to do is invade after Biden's bedtime and we can't do fucking shit. Again, its easy. Russia wants to prevent a Western alley from right up against its borders for an easy strike into Russian territory. All we had to do to prevent it was NOT be 'strong' on Ukraine joining NATO.

Exactly. Which is why nothing is going to happen. This was a major blitz and our commanders have no fucking clue on what to do. We've lost military exercises to other nations like Britain. The fact that our military can't do shit without a commander in chief and that person has fucking dementia is quite an obvious weakness, though I doubt our founding fathers figured we weren't retarded enough to elect someone who is completely senile. Too bad we were.

If I were globohomo and had decided to jump into this war I'd look at all those military age males from warlike cultures that have been imported over the past few years and send them to the front. It's not like they'd be much good in the factories. Sure it would slow down the great replacement but ideologically it works very well, by creating lots of brown "war heroes" to fill out the "diverse" history. Now there is the quibble of woke being an inherently pacifist ideology (i.e. everything they don't like is "violence", their entire goal is to turn everyone into inoffensive bugmen so that no more "violence" could ever happen and so all "inherited trauma" can be healed), but that hasn't stopped neolibs before.

Watching some of the video strikes, it's good to see that Russia invested in precision weapons rather than just kicking barrel-bombs out of the doors of HIND choppers.

Gonna be interesting to see how precise their fire control really is.

It's actually good for the civvies that Russia bothered to strap a pigeon with a silhouette card to the front of their missiles this time.
