Russia has had a lot of bad times, to put it in the simplest terms, and WW2 was one of their biggest Bad Times. They hate the idea of another invasion from the West like Hulkster hates Trump. It doesn't have to be plausible.

Aside from the pro-Russians in the east, I assume most Ukrainians would rather keep the fight going for now.

In an age where world leaders are cowards when push comes to shove, bravery is an exception. If your an enlisted soldier and your commander in chief is not abandoning you at the first sign of trouble, I imagine it can do wonders for morale.

Yup. The very idea that eastern europe does not wish to be under Soviet Russian benevolent rule short circuits their brains. They don't seem to get that being under oligarchs and strongmen isn't most people's cup o' tea. It must be devious American influence upending society or whatever.

modern Anti Aircraft guns, the best Tanks, PzH 2000, IFVs, Superior small arms, etc. Germany also has the Industry to produce that stuff in a short time, unlike Russia.

This isn't a schizo take so much. They don't know what Europe is going to be like 20 years from now. Their demographics are collapsing and if Europe goes full Napoleon in 20 years they won't have the manpower to fight back. So they're making and consolidating territorial gains now while they still can.

Never forget that Europe has had almost century-long bouts of peace before and when they end, they become incredibly ugly. Russia can't afford to not entertain the possibility.

I have no idea if Zelensky is a good or bad president, but I will say this of him: if he is really willing to stay in Kiev with his people and lead them in the fight to the bitter end, then he has my respect.

I cannot see a single Western leader doing that.
