They were 3 miles away. But the sound of gunfire as heard from the city center has gone way down indicating that they have disengaged for now. Its not clear whats going on or where the respective forces are right now.
Not anymore, the gunfire just lit up and got horrifically louder just now.

Didn't Russia have a puppet government set up in Ukraine before 2014? Would they risk doing that again?
It seems to be the goal, yes. Well, personally I don't see how they can install a puppet government that will hold for more then a few months. We all remember what happened in 2014, well, after that people have a visceral hate to any pro-Russian politician. How exactly Putin wants to secure a pro-Russia government and make it look like a legitimate and democratic one?

Maybe be under more heavy supervision, a direct annexation that encompasses the whole of Ukraine is realistically off the table. I honestly think that Ukraine being split into two, with the eastern half being a puppet state, is a realistic scenario since there's much more Russian sympathy there, puppeting western Ukraine is a lost cause that wouldn't last long.

Same reason ISIS became ISIL and then Daesh in the news. I don't actually know the reason but I just assume it's something to do with controlling the narrative to be pro ukraine. Kiev is the correct romanization, though.
Russian is Киев and Serbian is Кијев both of which pronounce very unambiguously as Kee-Yev. The English wikipedia page outright tells people to pronounce "Kyiv" as KEEV which is not just wrong but annoying and gay and degenerate, it makes my skin crawl.

Meh, it could be like, 10 people each. It's how they declared the Summer of Love was "mostly peaceful", because they included every minor gathering of speds crying about Saint Fentanyl.

burger city can be taken by simply stopping supply of toilet paper and disconnect to troon pron.

Chleningrad, Stalingrad ... never mind electricity, there was no water in August heat. Slav niggers need only hate to survive.

And if anyone thought that Stalingrad streets were long, Grozny streets were even longer.
Ukrainians aren't a bunch of Soviets hardened by severe hardship anymore. Kiev isn't Stalingrad. Putin isn't Hitler. And Zelensky isn't a brave freedom fighter, he's an ex-comedian that fronted for crooks and liars, including the President of the USA.

Shit happens when you get invaded, there is no good option, Die fighting or be "potentially spared" its not like its up to them if a Russian soldier wants to shoot or rape them regardless of if they have a white flag in their hand. You are also assuming they are gonna have full and enriched lives when the Russians fully annex them.
You are also assuming they're going to keep their's if they fight, if I've read your tone correctly.
There is no good option but the one that better ensures you'll live is better than the one where you have a higher likelihood of dying for no real reason at all.

By keeping Russians forces there as "peace keepers"

Like I said earlier, they have a lot of balls and not a lot of smarts.
What kind of european pussy speak is this? "Hurr just surrender to the people who constantly call you subhuman on the internet all day". I hate the US goverment but I sure a fuck wouldn't lay down my arms to some invading chinks so my sons can work in a bizmuth mine and my pets get abducted for some chink's mid day meal.

"Die on your feet, or live on your knees."

If Zelensky capitulates now, he dies on his knees.
