I don't know how many Kiwis follow Formula 1, but I know several Formula 1 fans that are probably happy right now with the sanctions. Sochi has long been considered one of the worst Formula 1tracks ever, and I'm kinda doubting the FIA is going to sanction another race there anytime soon. Indeed, they've "suspended" the 2022 Russian Gran Prix, but I'm guessing that's gonna turn into a full on cancellation at some point.

Yup it was Russia vs Abu Dhabi competing for shittest track/race every year. Now we just need Abu Dhabi to shit the bed and we're good.

What I meant to say is, the air force hasn't really been stress-tested in a long time. There's the risk of complacency, of "being well-prepared to fight the previous war".
Remember when the Zumwalt-class was all the hype?
How well things are going to hold up in a near-peer conflict remains to be seen.

At the beginning of World War 2, this was America's mainline fighter. Im sure @JosephStalin and the current dementia patient in the white house were alive when this was in service

I’m not worried because I’m not personally involved.
But all the trained foreign militaries you talk about would go there as paid mercenaries, not for free and for the dubious glory of getting killed by Russians.
People with expertise usually want to get paid.

some will, some will do it for free, I guess there is never a shortage of "volunteers" and career military volunteering, civil wars, foreign wars, list is endless.

Russians have been doing this in Donbas since 2014. I don't feel bad, more like it's about time to reciprocate.

I saw more of those, they are kind of funny when you forget the context.

I mean, if they just taped him to the pole, that's just funny. I once got duct taped to a spine board when I got my EMT certification on the Fire Department. I'll pick that over a night in a sketchy Ukrainian jail any day.

Russia and China do not work together in this fashion with cutting edge technology. Russia's arms industry is aimed at China as much as it is at America.

That's not completely true tho. Russia will happily sell military hardware to China, even tho they know about their IP-stealing ways. This includes advanced tech like fighter planes, radars, and cruise missiles. It's true China wants to eat their lunch, and is developing increasingly credible products to compete with Russia in the third world market that traditionally bought Soviet tech, but they're still relatively close buddies.

They go back a long way - the Soviet Union was able to reverse engineer the (then) world beating Sidewinder missile because one was fired by a US supplied Taiwanese jet and got stuck in the fuselage of a Chinese MiG without exploding, which flew back to base and was helpfully shared with the techies from Moscow.

The Russians would have good incentives to share info with China if they could get their hands on an F-35, working or downed. They both view the US and its allies as their biggest strategic threat, so they'd both benefit from knowing more about the F-35, which contrary to what internet experts say, seems to be turning into an extremely capable and dangerous platform despite all the teething problems and crazy expense.

The Brewster Buffalo was hardly a looker, but it worked quite well in its niche.

The Finns in particular had plenty of success with them against the Soviets.

Sadly, I think there's probably a lot of people on KF that have more appreciation for the 2D. I mean, speaking of the invasion of Ukraine, do you recall what was done to "improve" Attorney General of Crimea, Natalia Poklonskaya?

Uh huh, that's nice. Are they going to send over 70 trained pilots to fly them too? Or is the "Ghost of Kyev" going to fly them all by zirself simultaneously?
The Ukrainians have the pilots for em, they've been operating them for years. If the reports that most of the Ukrainian planes were destroyed on the ground are accurate, it's not like the pilots are doing anything useful. Plus they can always call up retired service members.

But last I checked Russia energy is exempt from the EU and US sanctions. It's not just a matter of higher energy costs. It would be a matter of NO energy at any cost. You can't just replace 1/3 of your needed energy over night.

The sanctions will only hurt the little people of the EU and Russia when it comes to consumer goods.
The business of Russia (energy) will keep on just fine.

Between NATO creeping closer and the world trying to push to "green" energy it was basically now or never for Russia.

Only disagreeing with you because Germany/Netherlands have months of LNG storage (longer if they go to rationing), so they don't have to replace it over night.
Also they have had 8 years since Putin last fucked around during winter knowing the Eurocucks wouldn't do anything. In those past 8 years they have only become MORE dependent on Russian natural gas, with Germany shuttering their nuke plants.

There are alternative supplies. The US east cost ports have enough LNG capacity to replace russian gas, but it is more expensive and while the US can supply, the EU has significant bottle necks at their ports - basically you can offload the needed gas onto Euro shores, but getting it where it needs to go has some issues due to border slapfights. Germany doesn't have a LNG port with sufficient capacity and don't want to rely on France. (so instead buy from Russia because that's somehow less of a liability)

And just because they are exempt from sanctions doesn't mean that they would stay that way when missles start flying. It is a huge strategic blunder to rely on Russia when you have opposing interests.

Again, I hate Globohomo and admire Putin's based responses to Jews, Niggers, Faggots and Trannies. But he is an expansionist powermonger and it is utter retardation to allow him to maintain any power over you if you aren't Russian. It'd be like middle east countries depending on the US for water.

I couldn't give a shit about their economic powers, they are equivalent of nigger rich. They have money but no class and are nothing more then bat munching, dog eating, pavement shitting bug eyed soulless savages.
And yet their empire remains and the USSR was destroyed. Truly Slav niggers can't administer anything successfully

The Buffalo was built for the Navy. So it could fit on an aircraft carrier and be beefy and do other Navy things, it wasn't the US mainline fighter. That would probably be the P40 at the outset.

Ironically for the discussion the Buffalo was bought by the Fins and beat the living hell out of the Soviet airforce.

At the expense of taking this too seriously, the Buffalo was on its way out by the time of Pearl Harbor, and the war kept them in service well past their expiration date, because why replace a Buffalo with a Wildcat when you can use them both? Then you're comparing a Navy carrier-capable fighter to an Army one, which is something of a false equivalency, you'd be better off with the F6F Hellcat, and blah blah blah nerd shit.
