Small power level: a relative of mine was in Germany during the 70’s and 80’s in a US engineer corps battalion. The plan if war happened was to blow all the bridges into West Germany and then try to slow the Soviets down blocking roads with huge rocks using bulldozers - because that’s all this unit had. They would have been a speed bump and died within days, but that was their job. Buy time for American reinforcements from the states.

So far as I know, very little in the way of Ukrainian attacks have been made upon Russian soil. An air base near the border with Ukraine was hit. Suggest at the rate things are going, we may well see Ukrainian attacks within Russia. Say, an explosion on the Moscow Metro at rush hour. Maybe a truck bomb on one of the Moscow ring freeways at rush hour. Maybe a suicide bomber in Red Square. Asymmetrical warfare. Would be very surprised if the Ukrainians were not planning such attacks, or worse.

I'll point out Bolton is a regular on newsmax and it's taken a super hard neocon turn over the past year.

Yeah, but the way you described it sounds like the defensive resources were so shit that they basically started out "losing", so either Ukraine started out already lost or they've gotten there. I don't think the person you replied to said they are losing because they decided to blow up bridges, but them deciding to blow up bridges is a sign that they are losing.

I guess it really depends how far all this goes. In times of full-scale war the stock market and that kind of just returns to what it really is - air and wishes. The only commodities that matter then are raw materials, fuel, food and medicine, information, and men. And I think they have all of those.

That said, I don't think full blown war will break out anyway. Honestly I think the only likely outcome is a weird, lossy victory for Russia and a divided Ukraine. A more unified and militarised Europe, and an even more alienated Russia. Makes you wonder what the actual goal was, but I presume Putin does actually have one. This is the country that produced Kasparov after all, you'd have thought they must have a game plan.

It barely means anything to bar Russian oil imports as far as the US market is concerned, it's not important to us and can be replaced by another source just as easily as they could find another buyer absent oil sanctions.

This will likely happen even if no significant sanctions on Russian oil are imposed, but it could be ant indication of it being considered.

Honestly I don't see Russia being able to sustain the majority of the world basically fucking their economy over, if only because a ton of Russian Oligarchs are watching their assets go up in smoke the longer this shitshow goes on, for literally no real gain other than Putin's ego. And Russia's economy was already pretty shit when the buildup was going on. And of course the sustained insurgency because no way are the Ukranian people still in the country going to bend over while Russia's in town.

even if putin has assurances that when russia leaves ukraine right now everyone will completely revert the sanctions (they won't), it would make him look week to the russians and russia week to the world, so he ate a lot of shit for no real gain.
that's the problem when you kneejerk with sanctions, at some point they only make it worse to the point of doing the complete opposite, and the west is going all out. even if russia is facing economic implosion tomorrow, today they're sitting in ukraine and even when they can't hold it they can flatten it so it's gonna take a while before it becomes an issue again.
and even if the oligarchs coup him or the population rises up, then what? that won't get the soldiers out of ukraine today either, and worse will turn the whole eastern bloc into a post-soviet state from the 90's where you have no idea what's gonna happen (or to their nukes or weapons in general)
