They are. The ruskies did implement some fixes to their plants post-Chernobyl but they still don't have western style containment afaik. As far as I know 3 reactors were down before the battle, the others they're shutting down now, and the fire was in a non-glowy part of the plant. Fuck I have a bunch of coursework to do and now the fucking vodkaniggers want to do this. And I don't entirely trust the high up Ukries to not sabotage the plant with the blessing of globohomo

They don't just turn off. You still need working pumps to keep them from melting down.

On the bright side, we may finally get enough data to determine the true relationship between radiation dosage and cancer risk at lower doses. My prediction is that the radiation hormesis theory is wrong.

The issue was largely down to the void co-efficient of the design.

A positive coefficient means when the reactor gets hotter the reaction gets quicker while a negative coefficient means when the reactor gets hotter the reaction slows.

The obvious implication of a positive coefficient is when the reactor gets hotter the reaction goes faster which generates more heat so the reactor gets hotter and so on.

Soviet plants were positive coefficient while Western designed plants are negative coefficient. It is an inherent property of the design so it doesn't matter how much containment etc you add if it's going to go on thermal runaway.

No idea which design these are though.

They were constructed from 1980-1986 and went online 1985-1996

Edit: They're VVER, not RBMK so that's something at least
