You don’t remember because it wasn’t. Which is why it’s getting more suspicious each day. I know a lot of people who used to be apolitical, neutral or downright racist toward slavs that are now salivating at the idea of killing Putin to save beautiful Ukraine.
It’s definitely weird and doesn’t seem natural.
I wonder if it's because half the country built up a bunch of emotional energy around Russia being the monstrous bad guy that threatens world democracy, which ended up being revealed as a load of crap once the Mueller Report came out, and they never really had any resolution or catharsis.

Don;t believe your lying eyes, they are totes elevated and the only way to reduce them is for NATO to impose a no fly zone and go to war on Ukraine's behalf!
The Ukrainians don't have much of an incentive for honesty at this point. They're going to lose and their senior leadership is probably going to end up against a wall when this is all over with. They'll do anything they can to manipulate the west into saving them, and the hysterical western media is fully onboard to help spread whatever stories they come up with.

I have no doubt the Russians are capable of epic levels of fuck ups and war crimes, but since the start of this I can count the number of verified truthful statements from the Ukrainian government on one hand.

Redditors just cannot deal with any framework that isn't overtly good vs. bad.

There's no room for nuance or the idea that both sides in a war can be awful. I feel the entire point of simplifying conflict in media to good vs. bad is a big part of the escapism.
