Crimea used to be drier than Cali right now; to supply it with water, the Soviets built the North Crimean Channel, which became regarded as one of the "great constructions of Communism" (there's untranslatable wordplay in Russian). It took 25 years to build (10 years of R&D and 15 of actual construction). I'm not saying it to praise Communism (although I am of course a commie) but to point out supplying Crimea with water was supremely hard for the USSR in the 1960s and completely fucking impossible for a castrated and cucked Russia in 2014.
