Me too. It was really a combination of three important factors that ended up "saving" the CNN cunts from a much-deserved immolation.

TL;DR: Cops actually showed up to (properly) defend the building. The rioters were unfocused, not particularly angry at CNN, had no glowing provocateurs present who were willing to attack their masters, were a bunch of fucking cowards, were easily distracted and eventually ended up wandering off to go shit up some other street corner instead.

First, the CNN building was either home (or at least directly adjacent) to a police precinct and at the first sign of trouble, the place was fucking swarming with police in full riot gear. They made it clear very quickly that they weren't fucking around and the rioters were flirting with real, actual danger.

Second, the rioters were largely incompetent and only managed to inflict damage in areas where no actual policing was being done. Most were only out there to "be part of something big" and enjoy the catharsis of smashing things and yelling. Despite the massive police presence, a determined (or skilled) mob could have overwhelmed it and still done some damage. Throwing rocks to smash windows and molotovs to start fires isn't exactly rocket science. There were plenty of softer targets to get angry at and mess with without aggressive police protection though, so they moved on fairly quickly.

Third, the rioters were absolute pussies. Standard-issue liberal rioters -- only fighting if they can isolate victims and swarm them. Otherwise they flex but avoid actual physical altercations. Confronted with groups of opponents (or well-armed ones), they scatter like cockroaches immediately unless they know they're being actively protected by law enforcement. The immediate arrival of police in riot gear who were plainly not in a "babysitting" mode put the fear of God into them, and they dispersed pretty quickly after spraying the big CNN logo out front with some graffiti.
