Just read the article about banning Russian dogs now from competitions, and all the people wearing blue and yellow in 'solidarity' with Ukraine.
It all just affirms my belief that 'the narrative', or whatever you want to call it, has essentially replaced the average bugman's religion.
I'm imagining all the issues previously described, living just for yourself, lacking any sort of purpose that is above the self, having so little in common with your neighbours, whether from multiculturalism or the general disconnect from people in general preferring to be on phones/in front of screens instead of even idle chatter/getting to know your neighbours 'like before';
Going along with the flow, being aware of the current hot topics and trends, the current 'goal and purpose' to achieve, something to believe in, as well as the feeling of being connected to others as we're all along for the ride, we are all finally feeling heckin' validated and even united by standing in unison for Ukraine, for all being vaccinated together, for standing up to orange man bad and kneeling down for our black folx, and burning down evil buildings as we strike back against white supremacy;
It really is just like us good rebel alliance folks fighting the galactic empire bad thing. All of us different and unique, of all skin colors and creeds, just like The Avengers.
And I have to give it to the preachers, they've dismantled the barrier between the causes to fight for and practically every other sphere from education to entertainment, you cannot get away from it anywhere. Your favourite video game developers will signal that they support the current thing, and you will have trans issues in your tv shows. And best of all the preachers are keeping it fresh and exciting, we're going from a mini revolution to mini revolution to war, to plague to war again in just a few short years, there's always something to be excited about that's new and just around the corner. The preachers are in full control of their flock. Real life has become the circus.
I'm left wondering has it always been like this, have people in general have always been this easily programmable, would they have been yesteryear's witch hunters and inquisitors, has the proportion of such people has increased massively due to the previous societal issues that still seem to go unfixed? Is there something wrong with the water we're drinking?

Crimea is iffy. As those were full on Russian soldiers and Russia didn't even have the decency to lie about it for more than like a minute. Funding the civil war? Still a shitty thing to do and speaks against the St. Putin narrative that some people cling to, but within the norms of International Relations. But this is not any of that. The political narrative is just one part of a bigger picture. The heart of alot of "therapy" today is supplying people with personal narratives. A story where they for some reason are a victim of something and not responsible for their own decisions. The thing about narratives today is that they are their own truth. It doesn't matter if the narrative actually happened or not, the person who it is given to will re-wire their brain around it.
The internet for a while presented them with real problems because at the start they could no longer totally control the narrative. Trump and 2016 was a defining moment because they brought the whole power of the machine against him and he still won. But since 2016 they have systematically extended their control into every area of expression to a point where everything is once again totally controlled.
The need for programming came about from the problem of mass democracy. The models for programming were developed from Freud's work originally in the early 1900s. Then perfected in commerical advertising in the 1920s.
But the need for total programming in the US developed first as part of the "new deal". The New Deal created business-government partnerships based around the government granting monopoly status to companies. Radio was a monopoly. Newspapers quickly consolidated into monopolies. Then after World War II, it all went into overdrive. The people who ran the country were terrified that a german-style revolution from the 1930s could happen in the US. So they invented the concept of "managed democracy" and the social conditioning that goes with it. The Cold War helped the process along.

It is the main thing that I am uncomfortable with even as pro Ukraine as I am. But this is a result of the first real war in the social media age. Everything is interconnected, War has always had propaganda, I would argue it requires it in order to succeed. You need it to different levels depending on the situation, and you want to disseminate it to your allies AND your enemies.
The one part of this I think Putin was absolutely successful with is using the free speech laws of the west against them. Moan all you want about censorship over here... and we have it for certain... but Putin has been planning this invasion for years now. You think it was a coincidence that an incredibly famous director made a pro-Putin anti-Ukraine documentary to set the foundation for the narrative he is using now? That's exactly what Putin did when he was working for Yeltsin, he paid a ridiculous amount of money to have a documentary made about himself years before he became president, it, like Ukraine on Fire wasn't successful at first, but it was in the background, and able to be brought up years later... when useful.
And it worked, no one cared about Ukraine on Fire when it came out, no one even bothered debunking it because no one gave a shit. Now 6 years later... it is being spread like wildfire among the contrarians, but no normie ever even heard of it before a few weeks ago.
Ukraine is absolutely doing propaganda as well. I have no doubt. Besides the normal fog of war bullshit, we have companies in countries that have been propagandized against Putin for years losing their collective shit and acting out irrationally, which is going to make beating this shitbird even harder than it would have been before. And it is because of that, that simple verifiable shit like the fact that the biolabs have been public knowledge for nearly 2 decades, and that Russia was involved with the international cooperative that started them up doesn't fucking matter... because no one trusts the government anymore. Well, enough people don't trust the governments to make Putin's statements counter culture.
If this goes on, expect a ton of visible useful idiots like we had during Vietnam, who sit around singing the praises of despots just to stick it to the man. At the same time, expect any deviation from Ukraine is perfect to be viewed in harsher and harsher terms.
