How much more effective would Russia's military operation have gone if they opted to kill civilians indiscriminately?
It would probably be over by now if they threw everything they had and stopped giving a shit. Or we'd be much closer to World War III.

Personally I don't buy the WW3 spammers, everyone with a brain knows how it would end.

The issue is not how Russia is throwing the party. The issue is how many people they brought to the party. I don't think indiscriminate shelling would solve their problems. Quite the opposite in fact. The last thing an Army of 190,000 men invading a country of 40 million needs is to turn every one of those 40 million people into a bitter enemy.

That's how you get a Battle of the Little Bighorn. At a certain threshold, numbers become a quality all their own.

I can hardly wait to judge everyone including myself on our useless, peanut gallery level takes regarding how this war is being conducted.
Really what is most revealing to me is that humans haven't changed at all.
We really shouldn't talk shit about any generation before or after us.

vatniks in moscow and neocons in washington aren't exactly known for their big brains though
and of course, the third party that doesn't get mentioned much, the eternal pole, they'll force ww3 because it will cause the earth to blow up into bits, and where will that leave Poland? SPACE! Their hidden agenda, getting into space.

You're probably right, but the objective is to dislodge the current regime or make them bend the knee, not kill everyone in Ukraine. It just seems that governments over there end up killing more ethnic Russians than anyone else. 20th century was simply the high water mark.

The fact that Russian Battle Groups include the VDV (they're being put on literal suicide missions but paratroopers are still considered "elite formations"), Spatnaz, and many Guard units alone debunks the idea Russia aren't sending their best. Is every Russian Battle Group made out of their best troops, no, but invasions are rarely made 100% out of "elite" formations.

The "Russia isn't sending their best" idea only began after Russian casualties started to mount and the offensive slowed down significantly. In other words, copium.
The mention Perun makes of a destroyed rare variant of T-80, the T-80UM2 MBT, makes me wonder if the T-14 Armata might join the death list. Now that would be highly unlikely, but who knows? The basic T-80U was reportedly terrible in the first Chechen War, with the gas turbine engine making it a means for a fiery death for a tank crew in urban areas. It was not used in the prior Ukrainian War of 2014.

What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.
Ecclesiastes 1:9-11

End of History types are retarded beyond belief.

It underscores the fact Russia is fighting the war they did not want to fight. I fully believe they expected it to be over by now, not still in its opening phases. Russia had four key objectives in this war tactically. Capture Odessa, Capture Mariople, Capture Kharkiv and Capture Kiev. Securing those 4 objectives would have allowed them to dictate the strategic terms, whatever those happened to be.

Thus far they've not even been able to ATTEMPT Odessa, they are still outside Kiev, have failed to full isolate Kharkiv and have added Mariople to the list of cities that have refused to surrender at any cost, alongside such august examples as Stalingrad and Vienna.

I guess I'm coming at this from the angle of whether one prioritises their own soldiers or foreign civilians. Putin, to my understanding, has tried to find a silver lining to maintain his "liberation" narrative while also attempting to bring Ukies to heel. This kind of half-measure, if true, is stupid beyond recourse and practically begs for defeat.

Well, our ancestors didn't tell the enemy their position to get some upvotes, so maybe it's not that bad now.

It is much worse.

The issue they faced was obvious from the start. They attacked on too many fronts with too few soldiers. The fight for Kharkiv and Kiev is a black hole on their resources. The Railroad support in the north is limited, they have to rely on Belarus who is proving to be feckless, and its drawn critical units away from the fight which really mattered. Capturing Mariople and securing a land route between Crimea and Donetsk. Had Russia focused on doing that, this war would already be a done deal and NATO would be pressuring Kiev to accept the reality that it will never regain control of Crimea and ceding the Azov coast to stop the fighting would be a small price to pay for a formal treaty with Moscow establishing Ukraines official borders.

Instead Putin decided he would go for the whole damn thing, attacked on four fronts, failed to take Kiev, failed to take Kharkiv, and is pissing away the flower of Russias youth on a shitty port on the Azov sea nobody on planet earth outside of that region would have known or cared about but for this debacle. This is textbook "defeat in detail". A superior foe sending his superior forces into battle piece meal so they can be individually isolated and defeated. Its shocking. This is entry level military doctrine even spergs who play wargames with plastic orcs understand. Yet somehow the Russian Army did it.

"Countries where authorities don't tolerate people providing alternative coverage to the mainstream narrative"...

Those of us in either North America or Europe should be ashamed that it's our "DUHmocracies" they're referring to.
Police in my country (Eastern Euro EU country) have openly threatened people, via official channels, with 10-25 years in prison for "spreading propaganda" and "inciting war" if they disagree with the official narrative. The parliament passed legislation that allows the govt to shut down any website for any reason and with no oversight, and this was used to shut down practically every non-MSM news source. Shitlibs are fine with this lol fuck Russia, we'll make our own Soviet Union.
