Lower standards too much and then we get poorly trained, barely motivated soldiers like Reddit Battalions. Except unlike Ukraine, America is stuck with them.
That and other matters make me think that the US military really wouldn't even want conscripts in the first place. Since the transition to an all volunteer military around 50 years ago, when you limit the pool to people who are not in it, uncooperative, and other matters, you put them in places like laundromat operators and the like. Since the draft went away in the 70s, the basic structure of the US military has so fundamentally changed that there is no capacity to really deal with conscripts right now because while the machinery is in place to actually DRAFT people, it's going to be very difficult for the military because of how much things have changed since we became an all volunteer fighting force.

Wrapping back around to where this all started with the Selective Service's tweet, I mean they have to tweet SOMETHING like what's the Selective Service going to talk about, the weather? I figure they've got to make themselves sound plausibly relevant, especially since there has been no draft in close to half a century.

Pro-Ukraine TDF members from Georgia post some footage on their social media. They get many likes:

If I was in Ukraine fighting, I would go out in the middle of some random place with a boat load of equipment, film it, go back to base, and upload it acting like that's where the base is, leaving a few tents up back there so the Russians can't just see it's a random empty field. Wasting a cruise missile or two on a few tents with no equipment inside is a good trade.

I'm just going off of what's happened in every single war in the last century. When you need more people, you lower the standards. God knows we did it enough during the Iraq war, and that was with volunteers.
Also see Mcnamara's Morons https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_100,000 EDIT: Dammit someone else posted this before.

Obesity would probably be the biggest issue with a draft now, but give em a month in boot camp and that oughta work itself out.

Also ya got zoomers who probably think they'll be safe in college with their bullshit humanities degrees in gender studies.

It all depends on how desperate they are exactly. The more desperately they need a warm body, the closer they are to literally just that as a requirement.
This article is heavily recommended reading for anyone wondering "Just how low can we go" when it comes to the draft.

McNamara’s Folly: Project 100,000"

At various times in its history, the US military has recruited people who measured below specific mental and medical standards. During the Vietnam war, “McNamara’s Moron’s” as they were called, were barely literate, or could not read or write, or did not speak English. They were underweight, or obese, were too short, or semi-blind, or missing fingers. In basic training, they often could not tie their shoes, button their uniforms, march in drills. Many failed at physical exercise, at tossing hand grenades, could not quickly assemble weapons, or smartly shoot at moving targets.

These clearly unqualified men were deliberately sought by Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, who in 1966 required more troops but did not wish to alarm the middle class. Under Project 100,000, pitched as a way path out of poverty, service entry standards were drastically lowered. In addition to men of low intellect, tens of thousands of other inferior men were inducted, including criminals, misfits, even men physically disabled.

It goes on after this, but for post-size sake these are the first two paragraphs.
The article also links an interesting presentation on the topic.

Oh I'm well aware of that particular fuck up. Stuff like obesity can be overcome however.

China would be fucked if we stopped dealing with them. They can't move the amount of useless shit we buy off them to India. The way people doubt our sanctions like its a one way street that only effects western governments is ignorant. We have more oil and gas then Russia in reserves that could cover NA and the EU and we have food options we could invest in on our own turf. People act like they know more then the people in charge who have all the data.
Yeah but the problem with that is its mutually assured economic collapse.

If the US and China decouple all of the sudden (emphasis on sudden) BOTH countries get fucked.

It was Russia's strategy to try and secure a quick victory from the outset. They even released a victory announcement on Day 3. As far as encirclement goes? I'm seeing just Mariupol encircled, the rest seems to be static lines and arrows that go nowhere. There is evidence that the Ukrainian's are counter-attacking and the MoD seems to have finally fixed their fucking map to show the LNR still being there.

This post is a non-sequitur. I'm not arguing that Russia is making a quick victory. I'm saying the longer and protracted campaign, slowly and methodically encircling the cities (as clearly shown on your map), is allow Russia to clear out and dispossess the military units and hostile civillian populations from the regions they intend to control. There is a lot of talk about having to deal with the inevitable insurgency and having a hostile population, and these posters clearly aren't seeing what is happening before their very eyes.

Also when did russia make a victory announcement?

There’s video of the Alligator burning in port. Sat images of one of the Ropuchas shows it spiraling away from port, so either the rudder is fucked, the engines are fucked, or both.

This here is a Ropucha.

And this as you can see, is an Alligator having a VERY bad day.

Covert Shores is a very solid naval watcher. Fact of the matter is whatever happened here, that Alligator is done for. By the videos, she’s a floating hulk right now, or sunk.

You didn't post the whole satellite photo.

Get a gander at that oil slick. The state of the Ropucha is unknown, and it didn't look to have rudder damage while running away. We did theorize that one was still loaded when the strike hit, so this could just be burning fuel and time until the port is clear enough to resume partial operations.

I’m going to laugh so hard when the reports of Ukrainian gangs leading to massive spikes in crime throughout Europe start to hit. My bets are that Ukrainians will be as hated as gypsies by 2030.

The west uses Ukraine as a place to launder money and profiteer, Ukraine is 3 times as poor as Russia now and was richer under the Soviet fucking union. You rhetorically sucking their cock isn’t going to make NATO treat Ukraine as anything other than a bitch. Even if Ukraine “won” the war its future would be bleak as fuck.
Yeah but Russia is fucking with our racket. They should surrender and not allow more senseless deaths of their troops. It's the same argument Ruskies say.

Damn, makes me wonder what the Atlantic Ocean looked like mid ww2 when tankers were getting sank frequently.

I'm a Ruskie and I un-ironically believe that losing this war would be in Russia's best interest in the long run. This war is a jarring exposition of what 20 years of Putin's rampant kleptocracy has done to stymie its own potential. Humbling Russia just might inspire for a radical push for modernisation as opposed to retaining its imperialist ambitions at the expense of their own citizenry.
With gas prices, inflation, Russian invasions, and a bumbling, incompetent POTUS.... are you sure?
Point taken. I guess I just desperately want a white pill of "things weren't this shit" in the past.

If by "a radical push for modernisation" you mean troons in charge of a woke bureaucracy and lockstep media and no allowable dissent from the globohomo agenda, then yes that might very well happen.
