We hit the 2k Russian vehicle losses today, even though I disagree with the captured number, because most of those were probably scuttled by the Russians or destroyed by the Ukrainians to prevent Russia from recovering them, they are the most reliable numbers we got in terms of vehicle losses for the Russians.

Most notable of these is still the T-80UM2, which was literally a prototype made special because it had the Drozd-2 APS.

One thing I've noticed more and more over the last 15 years or so, is that deep down, a lot of people, regardless of their politics, secretly want a dictator. It's only been getting worse over the last few years as well.

It really reminds me of the Roman senate going through the streets going "rejoice we are free again" after they killed Caesar, only to be greeted by silence from the people.

Won't be surprised if that's what's happening to a lot of captured tanks, if you don't have the ability to tow it just take what's useful off of it, ammo especially since you use the same tank guns, unused Explosive Reactive Armor plates, maybe even turn it into a static emplacement. Even if the Ukrainians can't recover most of these abandoned vehicles they're still fairly useful.

Hauling off the munitions is easier than hauling off the whole tank, but it's still a pain in the ass. You need a relatively heavy duty vehicle to haul them off, and time to pull them out. If it's in a relatively safe location you could, but it's not something you're gonna be doing in a remotely contested area.

Edit: a hearty fuck no to the making a tank a static emplacement, it's a sitting duck, and would just serve to get the people in it killed.
