My guess is that Moonchild will make one too many mistakes along the way and screw the platform up in the name of serving Pale Moon and perhaps others will come in and do the same and just be accepted without much thought or care as the free work it is.

Moonchild is NOT good at big picture project management and coordination. Nor is he good at anticipating what users need on a technical level and especially what they will accept as a Mozilla Refugee rather than a user dedicated to Pale Moon as a concept. I towed the party line even for things I didn't agree with and couldn't alter his decision on. His reverse/sideways/slantways course decisions were either some version my concepts or made up on the fly and used strategically for our own benefit. Never the less, temporary (or allegedly testing and transitional) things went on forever and set-in-stone stuff was changed on a whim.

At the core, people who look to Pale Moon want Firefox without the Modern Mozilla.. So PM GUID-only was never gonna work and Dual-GUID is only widely popular because it went on so long even though it ONLY EVER APPLIED to em:targetApplication in the install manifest.. NOT the chrome.manifest, code, or anything else.

The plan I set forth was the correct call to give everyone want they said they wanted (including in regards to my perceived existence) and what they needed and if things had not gone south and it was a smooth rather than botched or intentionally sabotaged release.. It would have been glorious.

On another note: Moonzilla has admitted that I took the DNS down AFTER I was banned from the forum and git forge. The narrative is collapsing for those paying attention. Though those are quite few and no one else cares or simply mentally replaces it with whatever imaginary shit that makes them feel better about the world. Oh well.

I, however, have shit to do. I have to restart my platform fork because Moonzilla decided to use the version with re-written history instead of the truncated history. That is why my local repo was hanging badly and my code cross-reference suddenly refused to pull. Sabotage comes in many forms don't you know. Also, as shit I have to do.. May depend on your WM choice. I find Awesome WM handles multimonitors quite well, although you might need to fiddle around with RandR configurations to get them arranged right if you have two 'levels' of monitors and want to switch screens vertically as well as horizontally.

You can actually run a version of RHEL for home use with limited repository access. However it is geared more towards sys admin types to learn with to get their accreditation. Beyond that it is a very limited version of RHEL due to the lack of available repository branches and as such I don't recommend it beyond Red Hat's intended use. You could always try to use CentOS' or Rocky Linux repositories but at that point you might as well use those operating systems unless you really love seeing that Carmen San Diego hat on boot.

Anyway, Tobin, if you want to give Linux a shot again, try a different distro and feel free to use the Linux thread to shoot the shit with us concerning Linux.

FTR I ran EL8 under a developer subscription which I had before the CentOS fuck-up. But no, CentOS isn't viable anymore in its stream-only form. RockyLinux worries me because the guy behind it has full-on partnered with the big tech dynasty. Alma seems more legit as they at least claim to limit sponsor powers. Time will tell of course, but yeah RedHat its self is annoying if ONLY for their over-engineered subscription manager. Whatever Linux I were to run on a workstation for graphical use would need to be within the RedHat family though as that tends to be able to produce the most generic and widely runnable binaries in the absence of any specific system packagers.. Which due to history and continued bullshit may not materialize for a LONG time. Unless I do it by my self as well.

I do still have Windows Legacy requirements and would still need to run Windows on bare metal for proper QA testing of my xul applications. VMs allow a lot but you can only go so far without tangible testing on real hardware. Though the same can be said for the linux as well.

On another topic: Since I am lagging behind on getting the tree building.. I have uploaded the binoc-central repo to binoc-graveyard as I don't intend to use the repository in that configuration. I don't have the explicit RELEASE branch but all the tag pointers are valid. For UXP/GRE points one is gonna have to intuit it out. Though at some point I will generate proper source archives that will contain everything foreach Interlink version. It will just take some time. I CAN do it on demand for a SPECIFIC version but I'd hope people would either be smart enough to work it out from commit shas or wait until I can reconstruct a full account for the entire release history.

I do plan to setup a forge on BinOC Servers but also plan to have it mirror-push to github for active repos and store archived ones in binoc-graveyard. That still may be a little ways off. I am still reshuffling my infrastructure around to take advantage of the second server and it's larger disk space.

Once I get the tree building I will release a QoL update to Interlink and the following release will be more focused on my intended feature changes. Also, hopefully by then I can post things on the BinOC site rather than abuse this thread lol.

Fedora is even more broken than stream. That's the point. Also, if I compiled applications on it to distribute it's build deps would dictate the minimum requirements of the generic builds which would be WAY too new for the old and insecure crowd.

I need something stable, reliable, and reasonably updated. Enterprise Linux would be it. Least as far as the base os wise.. No current distro or desktop environment is going to be ideal but a few are close I suppose. But really I don't want to get into THAT kind of argument. I do know EL8 hardware wise runs properly on this system I just need to find and bash a DE into some sort of useable state that can be reasonably protected from update-hell.

No I get you. It was tame because aside from a few facts there just ain't much to it because the escalation literally happened over almost nothing and most of the events presented by Moonzilla are over-exaggerations, distortions, or outright lies. I shall respond here cause this is kinda applicable to the thread.

Although the Goanna Runtime Environment™ is in its concept a good idea, the implementation of it is a bust due to primarily the unnecessary build system changes that were not properly tested in terms of how they would impact application performance, operation and stability.
At the risk of being accused of "bashing" again by Tobin in his new-found circle of "friends", the truth is that this was primarily his plan and work, and driven by the desire to make the tree as opaque as possible to people who were still on UXP and did not have a commit history to draw from to follow location changes.

I guess that since you aren't all frothing at the mouth and allow me to speak for the moment.. You are all considered my allies and enemies of the Pale Moon project.

There is NOTHING wrong with the build system and it has all been properly tested at every step in the way. Indeed the build system its self barely changed. Few bits and bobs here and there. Unless he is referring to the packaging bit which was fully tested and also reviewed by Moonchild along EVERY .. STEP .. OF .. THE .. WAY. As you guys have gathered and as others know.. I can be pretty proud of my accomplishments and as autisticly characteristic as it is.. I do tend to go into extreme detail about them and why not.. They are after all my accomplishments.

Alongside that, a truncated repository with no history would complete his plan to obfuscate, primarily to thwart what he considered "enemies" in some kind of political conflict -- a concept I regularly told him to abandon and to stop waging war. I wasn't even aware that he had, apparently, put pretty much every project and fork that was not "us" on his infamous "wall of shame" while there were no good reasons to do so, and that just won't do, and is unacceptable.

The truncated history was indeed part of the scheme to make it more difficult for others to use the codebase. However, I demanded that the non-truncated version be preserved (just with the rewritten commit messages to point old Issue references to the old repo) in case this in and of its self turned ugly. The fact Moonchild has been playing repository musical chairs proves that this is literally a non-concern BUT it has been a pain all week long as I attempt to rebuild away from that mess. Guess my plan worked all too well eh?

While I still absolutely disagree with flaunting Open Source licensing terms, and will continue to defend my branding as a mark of quality assurance (which will likely continue to remain a point of conflict on operating systems where, although possible, we aren't allowed to use known-good in-tree libs), this kind of tunnel vision on his behalf has made it clear that a lot of his recent contributions as well as the work done in terms of re-shaping the platform services are, ultimately, moot as well as a liability. A project of this scope and complexity needs big picture approaches, not tunnel vision. There is also considerable doubt about the integrity of committed work in the period since our internal conflict happened at the end of last year.

Translation: Everything that has happened before will continue to happen. Nothing has been learned or has changed in this regard. Except the lies.

Moonchild was the big push to remove all things Macintosh and the one who actually did almost all the work. While since before Tycho (27) I was pushing to keep and find someone actually able to do Mac builds and bring them to release without flaking out. As for Linux? Moonchild hates Linux so much that if he had no resistance he would never have allowed Pale Moon for Linux to be elevated to first tier and insisted that it be branched off and have to take in changes from his prime windows branch which would ONLY build for Windows the only OS he uses. I simply refused to do that work because it was insane but if I had Pale Moon for Linux and Linux support would be as compromised as Mac is right now.

All through removing mac this and mac that he bitched so loudly that the amount of mac bullshit was so staggering that he was glad to be finally rid of it. Don't let him lie after the fact now. Others were there and a few don't accept his good guy fursona these days.

Even though I really wanted to avoid parallel development which I've already done way too much of in this project, what needs to be done will ask for more of it.
The best way forward will be to go back to UXP, incorporate all the development advancements that are sane and trusted from GRE, and work on truly developing in the spirit of broad applicability and compatibility. I've already contacted the White Star developer to ask about collaboration and his adoption of UXP, and he expressed that he never really wanted the split, and we could find a way forward with joint efforts to support Mac as well as Windows and Linux in a more official capacity.
This will mean a lot of wasted work from all involved over the past months, but I think it's better to discard a few months of work than to toss the entire future of the project to the wind out of some sense of "exclusivity" that nobody really asked for (except maybe one...).

I reached out to dbsoft last night in the following message to try and make some kind of amends and provide some hope for the future.

I assume you been watching intently what happened with a lot of satisfaction. That's ok. But I thought it was fair to let you and by extension djames and roytam1 that going forward everything is gonna be done out in the open and publicly.. not the keep-away bullshit I was doing. To start with, I have released my binoc-central repo on my github graveyard https://github.com/binoc-graveyard/binoc-central while I don't currently have the RELEASE branch the release tags are intact. I will be moving the applications to my fork of the platform codebase which will also be made public as soon as Moonzilla decides exactly what of THREE fuckin repos he is gonna use.. Currently it SEEMS like he is gonna use the GRE repo with modified history rather than the one with truncated history. But then again the UXP repo was moved back into his primary org so fuck knows.​

For what it is worth I want to express regret for at least SOME of the shit that happened that didn't need to. I am not sure WHICH part but I don't think it matters at this point. I felt pretty good about that last night. Maybe build some bridges when I have proven my self over time. But it seems it was wasted effort .. not cause I did or expressed what I did.. But because nothing will come of it. I guess too much happened. But this is why Moonchild is suddenly not going to use GRE even WITH FULL HISTORY. His Macindestruction removed too much and he needs people so very badly.. So he is going to make decisions to cater to those who just two weeks ago he hated and threatened legal action because together they can keep the hate-orgy going. And as I mentioned before.. force me to restart my efforts for a THIRD time or simply not bother.

Let me remind you that Moonchild was completely on board with my plans and actions when not directly ordered by him. Him doing and saything is now is nothing but dissembling and lies to justify decisions that will ONLY bite him in the ass later for the short term gain of continuing my suffering and sabotaging my independent efforts. I will keep everything open from this point forward, no matter what may. Who knows, maybe one day in the future he'll even release Borealis on it and prove that the code is viable after all.

Yeah that would be nice.. If not for the above.. I was undecided for 48 hours as I tried to make sense of what had occurred. Also it is nice that he has given me PERMISSION to use Phobos code that I wrote my self and came up with the name for. Seeing as he has already stolen the Phoebus name.. I guess anything relating to a moon or space or greek gods or anything I have done now belongs to him and I can use it under his authority. Uhh huh.

The repositories are in a bit of disarray at the moment but I will work on cleaning that up after making sure our current 29.4.* versions are as good as they are going to be (i.e. fixing the major reported issue in 29.4.5 asap). To clearly mark things we'll also be abandoning the v30 major version number for future releases which will be v31 and up, when they are done. Of course, we'll be keeping up with security issues for as long as it takes to re-unify the XUL platform.

Version numbers won't erase the stains of what Pale Moon at its core actually is or rather WHO is at its core. Also, the repos wouldn't be a mess if the aforementioned musical chairs wasn't being employed.

As a clarification, in case there are conflicting publications about what is and is not part of this project, here's a run-down of the various domains:

• *.palemoon.org - under our control and once again available to the public
• *.basilisk-browser.org - under our control, the browser is discontinued, but I'm still open to offers to take over the project if someone wants to continue an Australis-class browser on UXP. I just don't have the capacity to keep developing a second browser that is essentially the same as Pale Moon in operation but with a UI I don't like.
• thereisonlyxul.org - operated by Tobin where he has published increasingly controversial information about XUL applications and forks.
• fossamail.org - previously in use by me to publish the FossaMail mail client. The domain was claimed by Tobin after I let it lapse after the client was discontinued, and currently under his control.

Well to keep the destruction narrative going along with more fabrications.. You guys know what was on thereisonlyxul.org.. Well contrary to what Moonchild claims.. He did too. He approved and joked about it as well. Don't let him claiming ignorance fool you.. It doesn't work anymore. Also, since this occured I have simply taken to redirecting it to Binary Outcast. Given that no one will likely verify his claim on his forum that lie will never get challenged and he won't be held accountable.

fossamail.org however THAT is a big big lie.. When I completed Interlink and released it.. It is true that fossamail.org was coming up for renewal.. He didn't want to pay for a domain for a project he couldn't even maintain as it collapsed after Tycho and I wasn't contributing to mozcode in 2017.. While it was valid he redirected users to Interlink then he TRANSFERRED the domain to me so it would stay in safe hands as he put it. I had used it to do direct redirect since then.

I didn't "snatch" it up in some malicious attempt to hold over anyone as he implies. So more lies..

Be that as it may if he wants it back he only needs to ask. He won't though cause it serves his narrative for me to be corrupting his brand to promote my own.

It might have been the correct decision IF one could actually believe that neutrality about a highly charged political topic in this day and age was possible. So really, any stance would piss people off and a non-committal neutral stance just projects weakness or disingenuous avoidance to say either way.

To be fair, I pushed for removal of webextensions from Basilisk in the first documented public disagreement with Moonzilla. The reasoning was like WebRTC and DRM it was something that would NEVER stay up to date with what Mozilla was doing and to me it seemed disingenuous to users with expectations to keep technology that was by its nature version-less and always in flux with zero stability or functional goals to reach especially when there was no intention to even ATTEMPT to keep pace beyond a casual afterthought or someone else doing the work which no one ever really did.

You can't base a project on projections of implied promises you have no intention of keeping. In addition, Basilisk was completely antithetical to ALL previous stances and principles of what we set out to do. That if nothing else is why I was so hard on it and critical of Moonchild even bothering. It's Australis nature (tech not the design) was also very conflicting with what every other traditional xul-based application was wanting to do. It was difficult to keep Modern Firefox-centric shit while progressing classical design and code. I of course accomplished it but not without significant time and effort for VERY LITTLE TANGIBLE GAIN.

That is kinda why I actually started the Borealis project because it was to be the direct opposite of Basilisk's Australis nature. While Pale Moon would broadly remain in its perpetually transitional state. Plus the Mail Client and the IRC Client that is what made the Unified XUL Platform.. Unified.

WebExtensions are an inferior technology not even as capable as Mozilla's LAST walled-off API, Jetpack, and was as much as a failure as the FUEL/STEEL/SMILE attempt before it. We could not expect any specific support for our clients with WebExtensions especially seeing as barely anyone supported already existing XUL Extensions even when all it required was a casual check once in a while and a targetApplication block. Given the aforementioned lack of proper versioning and WebEx api milestones and lack of any actual intention to support the technology well.. It just didn't make sense. But then again, neither did Basilisk as a whole.
