Let me unload the question then. Russia's mentality is extraordinarily masochistic. It glamorises a tumultuous history and exalts the people's "noble suffering." It fetishises The Patriotic War while its aged veterans lived in utmost destitution. It blames the entire world for its problems while using them as a scapegoat to bolster Putin's cruel crony regime that leads to poverty, violence, brain drain and suffering. How can anyone in their right mind tolerate this?

The tolerance comes from the pride that Russia has punched the West and its woks aspects in the face and there’s no taking away that.

That’s because people don’t know the modus operandi of Xi Jingping: infiltrate politics amd industries that matter and get/lobby those folks who support closer ties to Beijing, so when people protest China, the only question is how much do you want to crush and imprison the people doing the protesting, and everyone is left going “tell me Taiwan is a part of the People’s Republic of China without telling me Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China”. I think 2016 really broke some people and they haven’t recovered yet. Nowadays, people see even just listening to other viewpoints as agreement/endorsement. I mean some of those eastern European countries do have some legitimate concerns about Russia invading other eastern European countries given their past history. If Russia gets to use security concerns as a justification for invading Ukraine, it's certainly fair game for the other countries in the region to send Ukraine aid with the same justification.

The US suffered these exact problems in Iraq in 2003 and almost every major military campaign since the advent of war has had serious problems with it, the main army comes through and pushes out the national army only for there to be shitloads of insurgents in the rear. Napoleon's invasion into Russia was a shit show because the Russians were attacking at the base of his salient making resupply a nightmare scenario. Same with the Germans during World War 2 which had a very notable experience regarding lack of supplies as they approached Moscow. This region is absolute dogshit 200 years after Napoleon's incursion and nearly 100 years after the German incursion. Half the roads are little more than compacted earth which turns to mush for an extended part of the year.

Everyone uses America as a reference point regarding how military should be operating when this is the worst nation you can use to gauge performance, America can be likened to the Roman Empire of this era. The military is far and away the best on the planet and has almost unlimited money to throw at any problem. But the same issues that buckled the Roman state is occurring to the US right now -- this high performance military is just outrageously expensive and nation killing, over the course of the 3rd century crisis almost all economic activity revolved around feeding the military engine of the state and it destroyed what would be called the Roman middle class, afterwards you just had the magnates and the peasants and nothing inbetween. The budgetary and economic issues regard the military's expense only being resolved by Diocletian making a double standard of lower pay frontier units called Limitanei bolstered by roaming professional military units to reinforce them, larger military at a cheaper cost.

The US military has been at the zenith of its power since the 1980s and we're going to see a vast tapering off of its capabilities and willingness to fund it. Furthermore the US hasn't had to mix it up with anything remotely close to a well funded military since Desert Storm and the gap between an 80s Western tech army and an army of 60s-70s Soviet tech was jawdropping. Since then the gap between a Western army and an insurgent army has closed dramatically, these disposable weapons platforms like suicide drones, MANPAD, ATGM and IED completely overturn the manner of which fighting is done, almost the same revolution in combat the way the Submarine had on naval warfare in WW1. When the US charges into some shithole country flush with these kinds of weapons you're going to see the US go through the same level of damage that the Russians are dealing with right now. Armored vehicles arose because infantry were incapable of overcoming the artillery and machine gun bombardments of WW1, the world has spent a century trying to figure out how to eliminate this threat and it seems only in the past decade or so that the solution has come. Vehicles are disposable objects to lurch the infantry from one city to another where you get door to door fighting until one side flees and the process repeats. We've watched the past few conflicts in Syria, Armenia-Azerbaijan and now Ukraine confirm this. Armenia tried entrenching out in the open and got fucking OBLITERATED by drone strikes and pinpoint artillery fire from drone observation.

We're going to see military start cutting expenses down towards cheaper light infantry riding around in Humvees and JLTV with TOW missiles attached plus maybe something like a Stryker vehicle with a cannon on it for building reduction on the spot. Piloted craft are going to fade away in favor of shitty cheap drones launched and controlled by infantry in the field like the switchblade. Artillery and AA platforms are going to exist but the heavy shit is going to go. We already see the USMC abandoning the MEU concept in favor of what they call littoral units which are exactly what I described. The air force is trying to shitcan 30 or so F-22 already. The US military and thus the rest of the world is heading towards cheaper military but this will come with far heavier losses.

I'm not entirely convinced the withdrawl is some chaotic panicked retreat from an actual intended offensive as much as it was a bunch of dumbfucks advancing into endless ambushes only for command to finally notice and tell them to get the fuck back, we're not ready for this attack yet. Or perhaps the troops on the ground were still under instruction to relieve the paratroopers who clearly took the airfields weeks ago and established pockets for them to link up to.

My general reading of the wider redeployments of troops and the geopolitics of the situation - I don't think Russia failed to commit as many troops as they would need out of ignorance, or corruption, or negligence, as much as I think that they were worried there would be a genuine NATO response. The more NATO refuses to take the bait, the more confident they feel slowing down, repositioning forces, and not going as wild. They likely don't feel the fear of having X weeks before NATO finishes mustering and hammers their ass into the dust.

Edit: To be clear, I'm talking about troops, not logi - They definitely have had logistics issues, but beyond 'its happening' the fog of bullshit makes it really hard to tell what if anything is actually having a problem, as opposed to the general chaos of trying to get the right people the right shit.

Those 33 F-22s are all first-generation and aren't used for anything but training and you can get the same training cheaper using other planes that are also still combat-approved. The oldest F-22s don't have the newest air-to-air combat systems they're used for ground-attack training. Now that the F-35 is the ground-attack plane the F-22 is doctrinally almost purely for shooting down enemy planes

We're going to see military start cutting expenses down towards cheaper light infantry riding around in Humvees and JLTV with TOW missiles attached plus maybe something like a Stryker vehicle with a cannon on it for building reduction on the spot. Piloted craft are going to fade away in favor of shitty cheap drones launched and controlled by infantry in the field like the switchblade. Artillery and AA platforms are going to exist but the heavy shit is going to go. We already see the USMC abandoning the MEU concept in favor of what they call littoral units which are exactly what I described. The air force is trying to shitcan 30 or so F-22 already. The US military and thus the rest of the world is heading towards cheaper military but this will come with far heavier losses.

Light infantry vehicules are not a superior offensive option. It's going to be shredded by drone guided artillery and bombs and even some infantry heavy weapons.

And their ability in urban combat is really terrible because they're sitting ducks as demonstrated by the abysmal performance of the Russian Tigr vehicule in this war.

You'll not use that doctrine anyway in any large scale combat against great powers like Russia, China or other nuclear armed nations.

Nukes (tactical and strategic) have extinguished progress of military doctrine and war between great powers because they're just good against EVERYTHING.
