It's about as embarrassing as those stories about Kero showing up somewhere outside of Japan or in the real world and having to be nursed back to health or something. That wasn't as uncommon as one might think.

Oh fuck me that's just ridiculous but not the first time I've run across it. This at least takes place where there's a Japanese connection as it started with animu. I've run across fanfics which had ZERO connection to Glorious Nippon and they still had to throw in randumb Japanese words. And it wasn't like just one person. It was everybody.
