Urusei Yatsura is one of my favorite anime of all time. I am eagerly awaiting the remake that is due to come out this October, yet simultaneously terrified they are going to fuck up everything that made the original series great. Yes, the OG series has its issues; bloated with filler, shitty animation, garbage plot, repetitiveness around the 1/2 mark, one trick pony characters, etc. However, it still remains a classic despite these drawbacks.
Although it’s obvious at this point that this remake is a cash cow move, I’m still praying whoever is in charge at least can treat the IP with some fucking respect. Better not be a repeat of the 6th movie they shit out for Urusei Yatsura’s 10th anniversary back in 1991, after the series had since concluded. That movie and its regressive story were a slap in the face to fans.
Besides that, also having a holy fuck moment realizing the original voice cast are all approaching (or are already in) their 70s. Or are dead.
Not looking forward to the influx of exceptional normies and coomers who will scalp and/or hoard every single original animation cel that gets listed on eBay for the foreseeable future (I totally haven’t been lusting for years over insanely priced painted plastic that I can’t bring myself to purchase). I guarantee those retards will eat it all up.
I guess at least we’ll get new fan art?

I appreciate that they seemed to be trying to respect the original character designs, but that makes the weird coloring of Lum's hair all the more nostalgic. Also, don't think I didn't notice Shinobu's skirt is shorter… Still longer than modern anime averages, but one of the first things I notice in UY and other earlier anime is that the girls' school uniforms are something that I'd actually feel comfortable sending my daughter to school in.
Eh. Maybe this new thing will catch on just enough that they'll start distributing the old stuff on streaming too. Does it have a US distributor yet?

Some mad lass was able to find the 1993 American Sailor Moon adaptation pilot. Timestamped to the part where the pilot trailer starts; this was the music video that was shown in that old video from some con 20 years ago. But the full pilot episode follows right after.

i finally got around to rewatching evangelion + end of evangelion and i feel like i understood a lot more the second time. it helps the netflix version has the director’s cut for the last few episodes which gives me more context compared to the sketchy anime site i watched it on originally of the 90’s dub.
that being said, i also ugly cried three separate times during it because i’m an emotional wreck when it comes to anime to the point my stupid ass cried over dragon maid, re-zero, and the presence of minato in a random naruto movie.
