yeah i agree. he's so addicted to social media validation and he lies and embellishes so much that i'm unable to take his suicide story seriously. equally likely that he sat around drunk and seething and imagining how sorry everyone would feel if he killed himself.

I think most of his blog content is as true and accurate as his marathon times and how he owes quasi no money. Remember, "professional" fiction writer and professional liar do not have an insurmountable distance between them

The depths of insanity in the scifi writing community are unexplored by Kiwis. A lot of these people are baby boomers or Gen X so they aren't terminally online (anymore, most were in the BBS days) and their humor and horror don't filter into our view as much.

It also seems like the internet is a dangerous cognitohazard in general, and the older you are the less likely you are able to resist it. If you're a millennial, you had time to acclimate to the water before 2008 happened and the internet exploded in popularity. If you're a zoomer, you don't know a world without post-2008 internet so you're (mostly) fine. If you're a boomer or Gen Z that never messed with the internet much before 2008, you're getting hit all at once and you're probably boned pretty bad. Like someone that never used heroin taking a Kurt Cobain dose.
