Every pacific war vet I've met was fucked in the head. The navy guys were mostly normal, but the Army and Marine vets...hoo boy. My unit once did a veterans day March, and we got to talking to one Marine who fought in Iwo Jima. He commented that "I fucking hate reporters. They are always asking me what I did in the war. What the fuck you think I did? I Killed motherfuckers".

It was pretty jarring hearing it come out of some old grandpa. Ngl.

The Luftwaffe were also fucking autistic about dive-bombers and didn't have an equivalent of capable heavy bombers like the Lancaster or B-29 Super-Fortress which greatly hampered any sort of bombing campaign.

The Allies dropped more bombs on average in one day on Germany in 1944 compared to whatever piddly shit the Germans did over the entire Blitz.
The B-29 cost more than the Atom bomb so no wonder, But for real the main proponent of Strategic bombing in the Luftwaffe was Walther Wever but he died in a plane accident while Germany was still rearming.

It’s like almost two Klondike bars.

I spoke to a lot of vets when I was younger. I had the general impression that the Pacific was nastier.

yeah we were going to use chemical weapons. It would’ve been fucking gnarly.

I will never forget some old grandpa at a Fourth of July when we were kids and one asked (we were like 10 or so) "Did you fight in the war and kill people?" and his face just changed at the thought, his eyes narrowed to a bright blue, his eyebrows came together, and he looked a million miles away then he said "Yes, we all did. You do what you have to do." Then he like snapped out of it and said "Can you get me another hot dog" and it was over.

I am 100% sure it was nastier and fucked some guys up.

The problem I see is that the Japanese really had a ww1 army. It was a fantastic army in that regard, but severely lacking in others. Specifically in armor, their tanks were obsolete dogshit the day they were first made, and they didn't really have apcs in any real quantities. If German armor had a tough go at the soviets, the japs would have made that look like a cakewalk.
Also they didn't really exchange technology as much as others, so capabilities were mismatched and limited. Italian naval capabilities were okay compared to their other stuff but their tanks, much like the Japanese, were lacking in a lot of areas. Speaking of the Soviets it's a good thing for Japan that they were busy in Europe and not in the Far East.

Soviet tanks weren’t that great most of them weren’t up to design specs and used steel that was brittle and would shred crews when hit.

Oof you need to chill out. You're literally MATI.
What tipped you off?
It's funny that you think it'll take invading Russia/Moscow to escalate to such a level.
I know that for a fact. The reason Russia respects loudmouth'ery is because they're loudmouths too.
Putin's not some deity, he still has to deal with his corrupt cronies who juggle loyalties between oligarchs and the military, many of them are old enough to remember the Cold War and wouldn't think in a million years to actually risk that shit and their whole wealths, which is exlusively invested in the West.
If there is an existential threat to Russia, they're not gonna wait until Ukraine is on their doorstep
Retard, the only existential threat that they have is of their own making. Nobody gives a fuck about Russia besides what resources it can sell and even that shit is flying out of the window solely because of their own fault.
Hate to tell you, but the world has been screaming since day one of this conflict. Russia doesn't care.
lol
Whatever you say, champ.
Hence, why NATO is pumping Ukraine full of resources.
Good. That's what NATO should do.
Dunno what "people" you're talking about.
The one's that have been dealing with the Russian issues since before the fall of the Soviets lol
I'm definitely going to take the word of some nonsenical westernoid right now who says the stupidest shit about Russia without having a single fucking clue about it.
And hate to powerlevel, but I have a VERY good idea about what kind of nations both Russia and Ukraine are, esp. on the political front so stop being a cringelord with your blanket statements.
You're a literal retard, bro. You have said absolutely nothing of value.
You're living in an anime reality with the way you're talking. I hope you're a teenager lol. Go to bed. School's early tomorrow.
Retard, you've said literally nothing of value. Besides the gay teen angst which you try to push on me, your shtick is basically the West should cow down to Russia, because it has nukes and it might use them if it sees it as an existential threat to itself because of loosing a fucking war it started for a country it will never be able to hold.
Dumbass, this is pure germanoid thinking that you should try and use diplomacy with Russia without having a big stick behind your back that you'd be ready to use, which has never worked in history.
The only major country that knows how to do diplomacy with Russia in Europe is Turkey, who don't bend over for Putin, unless Putin bends over first.
Same with Belarus's Lukashenko. The sole reason why he has stayed in power for so long and why his coutry was not annexed is because he has always played a double game with Putin. He can go to Moscow, do photo ops and call Putin the greatest man in history. Then he'll come back home, call in the press and call Putin a moron retard who expects too much.
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and the fact that you try to call me 'boy' just shows how much of a boy you are yourself.

Yeah, a lot of WW2 vets weren't so merciful to the Japs.

They must have heard about how the Japs treated American prisoners in the Bataan death march or heard stories about how they executed and starved Australian and Dutch soldiers.

Propaganda must have also affected them somehow since they likely thought of the average Japanese soldier as fanatical and brutal. (which they were in a lot of cases)

This is merely the first round of the french election, nothing important is going to happen tonight. Le Pen might get more votes than Macron, but in the second round Le Pen will likely lose because all the socialists and commies will bite the bullet and vote for Macron rather than letting Le Pen become president
Isn’t that what happened last time?
The reason why not a single nuclear power dares push the button is not for mutually assured destruction, but because Turkey would be the only country left and that cannot be
MAD only works if you have people caring about the “mutually” part.

Reporters for Reuters also toured the exclusion zone. The morons had set up a command post in the Red Forest. The reporter found a discarded Russian ration pack, held his Geiger counter up to it and it started shrieking. According to the dude they interviewed, it was actually worse then just the red forest. The Russian Troops also tried to enter the Reactor 4 containment area (Zone of high danger).

Damn, hadn't seen that one. They were using trees from the red forest as firewood? Was absolutely no one fucking brief about the radiation dangers in the area? And they couldn't even bother to tell the officers to make sure the men stayed out of the Reactor 4 containment area?

It didn't help that many Japanese soldiers would fake surrender only to blow themselves up to take out a few more Americans. After a few times of seeing that, who isn't just going to shoot any Japanese they see?

Some of them went so far as to take the fact they ever served in the Pacific theatre to their graves. One of my grandfathers told me -- and his own son -- that he had served in Korea, and didn't actually go to the front. We didn't find out until after he died and found his military paperwork that he had lied to us for decades -- he'd served in the Navy in WW2, and had been sent to Japan. (Note -- I'm not judging him for lying. Whatever he experienced there was his story to tell or not, and he chose not to. Fair enough.) The only guys I ever met who ever approached that level of total silence about their experiences were Marines who served in Vietnam.

I have a feeling it's going to be like that for a lot of Russians and Ukrainians after this war as well.

To be fair, Japs weren't so merciful to other Japs, and it caused the Americans to question their moral reasoning. Japs would pressure into suicide, and even murder, civilians that were at risk of falling into American hands.

I have so many questions

Someone asked another question. I think Gilles is trolling. Not sure.

Interesting takes on Ukrainian leadership.
I’ve been hearing people compare Zelensky to people like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and Ghandi. It’s getting pretty ridiculous. Even if some happen to like the guy, I think it’s too much.
