Both theories are bad looks for Ukrainians. If it was a Russian who just blew them to smithereens like that then they look retarded but not as retarded as they'd look from getting blown to smithereens by their own guys.

I'm surprised they didn't take the angle of "unarmed Ukrainian troops MASSACRED BY RUSSIANS"

I wouldn't throw the friendly fire theory completely out the window, that kind of shit happens disturbingly often in war.

I don't disagree, but I have zero faith in Ukrainian sources. They don't have a very good track record to put it mildly.
Ukrainian troops (Tornado battalion shevron) are given an order about an offensive operation on Belgorod.

So it seems that the government decided that it's better to get rid of AZOV instead of supporting them. If true then I can imagine that what's left of AZOV will be very pissed off.
Reminder that these are the groups who were trained by NATO and received MANPADS and other goodies. A possible plot twist.

yeah it seemed like they were set up to be surrounded purged in the east from the start. Whatever is left of Ukraine is going to want the squeakiest reputation to be fast tracked into the EU..
