General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Did you or your brother take pictures? There doesnt seem to be enough of them circulating around on the Internet, considering who attended.
Stafd said no pictures and no recording during the DEMONDICE concert, which is very notable since in Kawaii Kon, literally every other concert (such as Teddyloid's a day before, and even in past cons from the likes of ELiSA and Asaka) its totally fine to record and take pics in a concert but DD's was a huge exception. However, there were times when DEMONDICE allowed people to use their phones like lighters (during certain slow parts of a song) and well of fucking course people sneakily recorded.

I have a feeling that despite it made clear that you can't record in any of the DD events (like the Q&A and Concert) people will upload the sneaky footage eventually. Personally for me, I didn't want to risk it after standing in the con for 10 hours in sweat and grease (seriously cons are nasty af especially in a hot place like Hawaii) but I'm sure it'll come.

Thats very strange, any reason why, maybe contract/licensing stuff?

The only time I've heard anything like that are 18+ panels. So strange.

Marine's still under the weather but she's having a 3D Live on the 27th with guests (it's prerecorded for obvious reasons and there will be no merch).

She also showed part of her new MV that's coming up.

I legit thought it's a Grand Order trailer with Francis Drake before I realized it's actually Marine.

Tsunderia crashes and burns, but mikeneko rises from the ashes. Alexa, play "Circle of Life".

Hmm I wonder what Pippa is reading to Tenma?

I'm not sorry.

In general, do smaller Vtubers ever show up on this thread? or just the mainstream ones? I don't think I've seen many indies talked about here
Sure, but the thing with the small chuubas is a) they don't stream as much as the corpos since it's not their full-time job and b) a lot of the folks in this thread have been around for a while and pretty much have their chuubas of choice (corpo & indie alike). The smaller chuubas will get shilled/posted every once in a while but unless they're doing something really remarkable, then they don't really get imprinted to most people on this board (who are all mostly here for chuuba news, drama and unfiltered roommate discussion).

Which reminds me, Zephyrianna (the other metal chuuba) posted a short cover of "Kataomoi" as a YouTube short:

but I'd say the fans have been quite restrained so far.
The smaller the con, the more restrained the fans are. Spergs get emboldened when they find themselves among a crowd of other spergs.

Kronii is like that too. I remember she didn't recognize the song Ahoy when they went to Marine's ship in MC. I also remember that one dude that applied to get into HoloStars EN but didn't know jackshit about Hololive and wasn't an active streamer. He just applied but didn't get in. He was able to get an interview so he was considered at some point. I think recruiters don't really care if you are a fan per se or is an active streamer before. Kobo seems to me was a perfect fit for her model so I'm guessing they already had a certain set of characteristics/personality in mind that they want to see in a model and would just pick whoever checks every box. Besides, it looks like they have about 3-4 months to prepare based on what Kobo said so plenty of time to get acclimated.
The same thing happened with Calli if I remember. She didn't give much of a shit but applied anyway just because her friends wouldn't shut up about it and ended up getting in. It's very much auditioning for a part and not necessarily whether or not someone is good at what they do, just if they fit the image the recruiters have in mind.

I really like the design too. "Catgirl" is about as basic as it gets when it comes to vtubing, but a well-made catgirl design is still good.

I've been to anime convention panels with Japanese industry guest (in this case, a fairly well-known director) who requested that people don't film or record the panel.

Is Kawaii Kon considered a small con compared to others in the mainland USA? I mean it is pretty much the only popular convention in this state (HI population: 1.416 million). I don't know what's a good figure but Kawaii Kon 2019 had 13,076 attendees in total for reference.

Should I?

EDIT: Fuck it, I'm going for it. My chances probably aren't great tbh because I don't speak JP and I'm self-taught on the very basics with free software, but for the chance of getting paid to make Phase Connect clips which I've been wanting to do anyway, it's worth it.

I'd call it an upper mid-size anime convention. Definitely well above the many local conventions that only get a few thousand people, but behind the "big" cons, which are generally above 20,000 attendees (Sakura-con, Otakon, A-Kon, Anime Boston, etc) and the really big ones which are above 30,000 (Anime North, Anime Central, Anime NYC). And then there's Anime Expo, which is really off in its own category. Granted I'm mostly going off of pre-Covid figures.

Speaking of conventions, OffKai 2022 in San Jose, CA takes place next week. It was brought up in this thread in February when the early announcements were made but here's the full roster of guest appearances.

I am beyond disappointed that you guys can masturbate Phase Connect as hard as you do without updating that pretty much everyone in the company will be attending. LazuLight, Mousey, Melody, some members of PRISM, and some Indies that get dropped here every now and then will also be there.

Maybe Pippa is so busy with the convention that it'll take her 9+ months to reschedule the Rackets collab. :smug:
