Poorly coded and possibly bugged? I'm sold.Sorry to cut this short, but I can't play this. No sooner did I start to play this, my virus scanner detected a possible threat and successfully moved it to quarantine. It's practically for the better. The game is unplayable, the graphics are a mish-mish of nonsense, there was no music in the 30 seconds I played it, the level design is absolute nonsense, honestly I could do a list of issues with this piece of crap if I played it for longer.
I can't risk anything happening to the computer. I'm working on getting a new one at some point, but until then, I need to take care of this one. Someone else will need to do the dirty work. I was even iffy on downloading it for the reason of possible malware, so when Bitdefender quarantined it after detection, I wasn't surprised. Be careful if you choose to download this file and make sure your malware/spyware and virus scanners are up to date.
Now I need to go play Freedom Planet and wait for the inevitable sequel that'll come out.
And probably at a ridiculous price too, if he's anything like the majority of steam greenlight devs..With Valve super open publishing, I wouldn't be surprised if Jotex tries to put this on Steam Green Light.
Given how precisely the gameplay and movements seem to match the old sonic games, wouldn't surprise me if he's using some ripped/hacked up version of the original engine he found online somewhere.I'd really like to know what shitty engine he's using to make this. Like someone else said, this is some kind of game engine that lots of shitty sonic fangames use. It's very familiar but nobody ever knows what it is (probably for good reason).
Either way, the engine is definitely doing most of the work. If he was actually rolling raw SDL and writing the physics by himself you'd probably have a mess of fidgety objects that can't even touch a wall without getting trapped in it.

Could be ripped from someone else's attempt to recreate the engine in a more modern language then, which seems more likely. Still, he doesn't seem like someone that's particularly competent...That's impossible, the original engine was probably written in assembly language for the original Sega Genesis. It would have to be a romhack, and it would be pretty difficult (and way out of his league) to implement that health system. Besides, the camera view is off, it makes everything look really small, which I think is the defining element of this engine without seeing the gameplay (which this engine is also infamous for being really bonkers with it's controls and character movement).
