Almost! In fact, we just passed the 1 1/2 year mark of the PS5's lifespan. So I did a little bit of research:Jesus, has it really been 2 years since the PS5 dropped?
Goddam Sony, WTF?!
As of May 13th, 2022, its been 547 days since the worldwide launch of the PS5 on November 12th, 2020. The PlayStation 2 launched in Japan on March 4th, 2000, so its 547th day was September 2nd, 2001. There were shortages, but not nearly comparable to what we're seeing today, and even with the American launch being 7 months later, you could reliably just go to the store and walk out with a PS2 by then.
Wikipedia has a series of handy articles cataloging the entire PS2 library, and you can sort them by date, so here are some titles the PS2 had within its first 547 days:
- Final Fantasy X
- Devil May Cry
- Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec
- Timesplitters
- SSX
- Para Para Paradise
- Shadow Hearts
- Twisted Metal: Black People
- Red Faction
- Onimusha
- Zone of the Enders
There are a butt-ton more, of course, and even I didn't realize just how immensely strong the PS2 already was before the Gamecube and Xbox even dropped. If it just vanished and died right then, it'd forever be considered a good console on what it already had with a lot of wasted potential. Sort of like the Dreamcast, ironically.
But, the PS5?
The PS5.
This is all the PS5 has to offer. This and nothing else:

Why? Because everything woke turns to shit.
