More interesting is the fact that after the FBI took over the investigation, his house somehow burned down with all of the evidence, and photos of the hotel room he shot from only show 50 spent shells. Years later we still have no motivation, and there was strangely no follow up on the biggest mass shooting in US history. Most confusing is that the day after his brother had numerous press interviews where he claimed it made no sense, he was arrested for possessing several hundred terabytes of child porn on a 20 year old computer running Windows 95, at least according to the photos taken by the FBI.

To me that's the least of the problems with the Las Vegas case.

The FBI spent an entire year investigating this and claims no motives other than some recent gambling loses but days before the shooting he gave his girlfriend $100k and paid off his debts. If your plan was to go out in a hail of gunfire at a casino would you bother paying off anything?

The guy was a Lockheed Martin engineer and the best idea he came up with to rapid fire an AR15 was a bump stock? For around $30 you could get a solenoid and associated switch gear and rig up something to pull the trigger as quickly as you wanted and actually maintain aimed fire.

His bump stock equipped rifles had high power scopes. You can't aim while bump firing because the rifle is bouncing around much less obtain the steady cheek weld required to use a scope like that.

I'm not one to believe in conspiracy theories but the FBI's official explanation is crap.

I'm not saying everyone should be walking around with a plate carrier, and a belt fed M60 - I am, but no one agrees with me! - but people should spend more time at the range, people should put some good thought every once in a while towards their personal safety. I live in the safest city, in the safest county in the safest part of the UK; I own a gun, officially because 'Me like target shooting teheheheh' but realistically because I like target shooting and I like having the personal agency to defend myself should it ever be needed. People should take steps to gain more options than run, hide, or die, when some asshole tries to make them a victim.

Devils advocate here, would you really be that concerned with aiming in a precise matter? Remember, he was shooting into a mob of people. His concern was being able to maintain a certain rate of fire, not being able to get headshots. That being said, i agree that it doesnt make sense that he wouldnt just get the gun modded.
