Atlas is still well within normal range for talking. As others have pointed out, it's not surprising he's a bit slow with it due to how little his parents seem to actually talk to him. Yes he's hearing them talk, and the TV, the therapists and whoever else he may encounter, but for a learning baby it's not enough. On the same token, it's not surprising that he was advanced in walking due to effectively being in pt hab his whole life, since narc mom has always enjoyed thrusting him into the middle of pt so that they can act as his babysitter.

But for the curious, I just did some surface level research, and as long as he was producing single syllables by 10 months and (especially) didn't lose the ability to babble once he started, he's in the clear. And to be honest, we don't know how far along he is (or isn't) with talking given how little his mom shows or cares about him. I mean, look at how she reacted to his learning how to walk. Although we might hear about it when he learns how to say "Luna". Hell, maybe narc mom is waiting for his first "Wuna" so that she can pretend it was his first word regardless if it was or not.

He also doesn't have an older sibling who can model language through interaction with him. I'm not surprised he's just beginning to talk now.

He might end up being one of those kids who goes from not talking at all to speaking in full sentences, simply because nobody ever talks to him enough to notice his language development or suss out his toddler babble. He gets positive reinforcement for kissing Luna, and probably a neutral response for doing anything age appropriate. Not one bit of fanfare about his early walking.

I don't think his speech is late yet, but Robyn talks to him through the camera. He appears to know where the lens is, and looks at that, as opposed to his mother's face when she's talking.

He's aware that the camera is what needs to be looked at and performed for. Just like Mom does.


He's going to be one alienated kid, because this won't stop with Luna's death. Dare I say he'll be at risk for addiction or being groomed by someone who pays attention.

Kind of a toss up, but much like how narc mom has realized how much functioning kids actually suck, she's not going to like Atlas being at home all day "learning" when she wants to watch her trashy shows and play on her phone. I wholly expect her to get him a bullshit vaccine exception and eagerly start shoving him out the door once he's old enough to start Kindergarten (for her, it'll preferably be an all-day one so he'll be out of the house from 8-3 on day one instead of waiting all the way to first grade).

Or that even if he does, he'll graduate. Last fall, out of curiosity, I was checking out the elementary schools closest to them on Great Schools and it's about what I thought. The BEST had a like 36% proficiency rate for literacy. Math and science? Honestly Robyn's woo couldn't be any worse for him than what those test scores showed. He's also going to have to deal with harrassment and physical assaults for being half-white. Plus with Glenn already being a huge pothead, I could see Atlas starting out with pot at 11/12, getting into harder drugs in his early teens and dropping out of school at 16. Shit schools + shit parents usually doesn't translate to academic success.
