Sony hate thread

It’s been said before, but I’ll repeat it:

The mini PSOne was a big mistake, and the only reason they release it in that fashion was because they tried to compete with the mini Super Nintendo and mini Sega Genesis.

Never underestimate SNES and Genesis collectors. If they were lucky and tried to release a mini Sega Saturn, then it would be a different story.

The Playstation Classic was released long before the Genesis Mini was even announced. But yes, it was another shameless inferior ripoff of something Nintendo already did… at least officially. I got two PSCs new in box for less than $30 each back when nobody liked them, but before everyone realized how good they were for emulation. It (ironically) wasn’t the best device for playing PS1 games, but it had fast startup/load times and was great with everything through SNES/GBA. It even had surprisingly good DS and PSP emulators.

That would require Sega actually giving a shit about their IPs... which they don't. And I don't feel 100% confident about their recent "reboot" announcement.

Otherwise something like a mini Saturn could work because it would have plenty of games to go off of.
  • Bug! & Bug! Two
  • Clockwork Knight 1 & 2
  • Sonic 3D Blast
  • Sonic R
  • Nights Into Dreams
  • Virtua Fighter 1 & 2
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Virtua Cop
  • Daytona USA
  • Sega Rally Championship
Those games alone would be a good starting point

No one wants to pay to play Bug, Clockwork Knight or Saturn the Dayton/Sega Rally ports. Virtua Cop with a controller sucks just like all lightgun games.

All these minis are just emulation boxes anyway, Sega could pull something off if they included some known properties and translated some Saturn Jap-only games. I might actually be interested in buying that. edit: with the Saturn they're already relying on a niche segment of gamers, why not really lean into that?

Not sure about some of those picks but Saturn has a lot of potential for a mini or compilation. I'd like to see Burning Rangers, Deep Fear, Sonic Jam, and the Panzer Dragooon games.

is just a rom collection (minus the "world" level, which is more of a hub with missions), which not only sega hasd plenty of, but have been removing the ones available online because of Origins.
The hub world section is a a really interesting seeming historical curiosity, I can see them including it for that reason. I guess it could go against their Origins sales, but if it's released long enough afterward it should be fine.

I'd even like whatever their latest Sonic X-Treme betas are (could be a bit more polished than whatever is floating around unofficially).

So the adding trophies for old games thing is real

This should also encompass the PSP stuff as well. Maybe SC and 3 will now have a different set.

The other thing is that the patent for retroactive trophies was coupled with PS3 shit. The PS5 cannot go all the way back to PS1 and play discs because I'm pretty sure the bluray player does not physically have the right laser. But between the game preservation team and the fact that they just upgraded the PS3's security with a patch, it looks like they did not forget about it.

Link isn't working at this time. Alternative LINK.

Props to Sony for adding such support with their legacy catalog. I liked how they added trophy support with their PS2 to PS4 games.

People want MS to do the same with original Xbox games. This would be on a case-by-case basis with the developer.

Going into the PS2 Sony had character in the ads they put out.

Sonys old European ads were always either hypersexual or borderline schizophrenic for some reason. Europoids are weird, Sony has ads showing women being gangbanged and it's fine, but somehow the "life is short" ad for the original Xbox was too offensive for them despite not being particularly violent or sexual. Being European is a mental illness.

>CEO outlines that GAAS and/or Live Service Titles will be the day 1 PC and Mobile releases because they want revenue stream
>PC still will get low trickle of previous gen titles so people will get a PS5 for the sequels
>People blame Jim Ryan because this surely means Ragnarok and Forbidden west will be on Xbox by next week and playstation isn't even getting Starfield or Elder Scrolls in exchange

it can't be helped...

Also there's a shitload of astrobot merch now.

How in the world could you forget Burning Rangers or Panzer Dragoon?

The cope of people buying a PS5 for sequels of games is exactly that, cope. It's like when microsoft ported Gears Of War 1 to PC with the same thought process. I doubt anyone bought a 360 after playing Gears 1 on PC specifically to play Gears 2. Same goes for Halo 2 Vista.

Seriously, why would anyone buy a Playstation when they already own the superior platform. This entire thought process makes no sense.

Microsoft's whole thing is that they own windows and will be tying xbox into that. That's not the case with sony they don't have an operating system. For them it's the other way around, all these other platforms have to tie into playstation in some fashion so people will buy their hardware.

PC as the superior platform thus far comes with a shitload of asterisks. Games come unoptimized, digital only has proven to have issues, and you have stuff like denuvo. Yes you can theoretically fix everything after hours of fucking with it, but there's also now the multiple storefronts and not all allow the same levels of access when it comes to file editing/modding.

the 4090 comes out in a few months and that's expected to be priced more than all 3 consoles combined. 500 bucks is not a lot compared to the existing ceiling. You're well under 2 grand in hardware when it comes to all 3 machines combined.
