The idea of faking an alien invasion always sounded silly to me since it's nearly impossible to make it convincing enough, besides there aren't too many reasons as to why any true and honest alien species would invade Earth, if they want reasources they can find billions of asteroids or small rocky planets that have thousands of times more resources than Earth.
Unless they're space jihadis or like the Combine from Half-Life then they don't need any practical reason to invade and we'd be fucked.

A common refrain from black friends of mine whenever I suggest voting Republican against even the local Democrat party, let alone the national politicians we're usually griping about after a few drinks, is "I cannot vote Republican. I just can't. My family would stop speaking to me."
Like, I remember in the leadup to the 2016 election, going point-by-point through Trump's platform with a black friend saying he liked 90% of those positions, and when I mentioned it was Trump, not Clinton, I was describing, he immediately said "oh no, I can't vote for Trump. That would end me"
