It’s pretty incredible how Jim reliably loses 1k subscriber every week since January 2021 this year, there’s no giant drop off (The largest drop (-3000k) was when he made a anti-FNAF/Scott Cawthon video) or any weeks where he gains some but on the other hand he’s got 20 million more weekly views now compared to the time he had 900k subscribers so maybe Jim is actually making more money than ever? (Using stats from Socialblade)

I can't imagine viewer gains lasting when lasting audience is going down. If anything it's the algorithm giving him a boost and that doesn't go on forever.

Jim and TB never gave an iota of a fuck about consumer advocacy. It was mirage they cloaked themselves in. I had a really long back and forth with TB on some game article's comment section about him raging on Unreal Engine 3 and framerate locks. (remember TB's Framerate Police that flagged tons of visual novels and spreadsheet-based sport sims?) I tried explaining that UE3 does not lock physics to framerate automatically and that tying physics to framerate isn't a de facto "lazy" move, as well as how DLC rollouts solidified and retained developer talent for medium-creating positions. A lot of people really don't fucking get it because they either weren't around at the time or they simply didn't know how the industry worked. Back in the Wolf3D days and even going to the Halo days, 75% to 90% of a studio's staff would be lucky if they were retained after a title shipped. Remember CoD: MW? Infinity Ward fired over 70% of its over 1,000-person staff after that game released. Today, that churn is nearly gone. You can argue the benefits and detriments of this effect on consumers, but it is undoubtedly a better atmosphere for developers that *can* benefit consumers, too. But TB couldn't see that. It was all just "lazy devs" and "do better" nonsense from a guy that knew nearly nothing about industry dynamics and processes.

I maintain DmC: Devil May Cry is a good game in its own right, and it's not Ninja Theory's fault but Keiji Inafune and his retarded quest to westify all Capcom's IPs during that period (see also: the Bionic Commando debacle).

Ninja Theory made a great Ninja Theory game, but we wanted a great Devil May Cry game. Thankfully we eventually got it, about a decade later.

He posted a lot of videos about slop he found on Greenlight. Whether he mocked it or not, he did it himself, and is part of why a lot of audience turned around and left- he was an arrogant prick that had hints of hypocrisy, among many other faults.

I'm completely certain you're talking about somebody else. I was a regular viewer of his right up until he died. TB posted a lot of videos period. His output until the late stages of cancer was phenomenal and consistent, with his critical videos being a tiny minority. Maybe a tenth of his output at most. All of these were very well-received and considered classics, often getting far more views than his regular content. Despite this, he never tried making himself a rage-gamer and always tried to make a point with his reviews, tying them into a larger narrative about the declining quality of the indie scene and the exploitability of the Steam greenlight system. His audience did not 'turn around and leave', they stayed strong right up until his death. His viewership declined because he was fucking DYING and couldn't make proper videos at the same pace as before. People liked him for his 'arrogance', that's what made him stand out, because he wasn't a simpering hipster like NerdCubed or a whiny obese bitch like Jesse Cox. He was a professional who didn't take shit from idiots and didn't pretend to be anybody's 'friend'. It's that simple.

The funny part is, believe it or not, there are elders who actually are in favor of LGBT rights. I personally know someone that was born during the Interwar period and that has no issues with people of different races, LGBT and the like. People can learn and adapt to new realities, but it takes patience, dialogue, respect. A Grandma might hate the gays one day, and then change her mind once she sees one of her grandsons being happily in love with his boyfriend. You can never tell. But people like Jim do the exact opposite in terms of building bridges between people, Jim is the guy that walks into a place, acts like a complete asshole and yet expects to be respected just for being who he is. And sadly he gets validation for it. Nobody builds intolerance quite like people like Jim do!

I try a little to avoid saying it, but it's a fact that cows like Jim are deeply narcissistic and high on egotistical delusions. Those are lifetime views, he isn't getting 500M views per week. Those will always be going up as long as he has subs, it's just not going to go up as much as it used to.

Just because he had a high output does not negate that part of that meant lots of videos ragging on shitty games, in fact it proves it. I don't know why you're bringing up "rage-gamer" into this as if that's how I described him. TB lost viewers for many reasons, but no, I don't think anyone liked him for his arrogance. He had a dozen videos on Twitter controversy alone, where he repeatedly admitted that he spent far too much time arguing over the stupidest shit which alienated people, and yet he never learned. He lost of lot of respect from people for turning against a large part of his audience, who largely held that industry censorship was one of the many facets of consumer advocacy, yet TB was vehemently on the side of censors (when they weren't censorsing things he liked).

I would posit that without his death TB would probably go the way of Jim today, just far more slowly. He probably wouldn't have trooned out, but he certainly would have made enabled it for others, and there would be far too many foot-in-mouth moments to sustain his popularity indefinitely, especially as the new generation of Youtubers started to come in. His issues were far more compartmentalized and subdued than Jims, but they were there, and would come out often.

His average per patron is going down, so he's losing people paying 2$ or above. Losing $1 tier people would make the average go up.
