Sony hate thread

What DVD version does your ps2 use? if it's 2.10, 2.12 or 3.04 you may be able to run burned discs with the freedvdboot exploit.

that's true but all of the big stuff that comes out of asia doesn't seem to have that level of artistic direction. If I see one more catgirl making the peace sign I will vomit.
What made me think my ps2 modified was i tried it but got a ps2 disc instead of dvd-v ( this is apparently tied to a glitch that happens if you have a modchip installed read this on github page for freedvdboot )

A lot of PAL games are multilanguage, that way they don't have to do anything for an international release.
So instead of patching languages into the NTSC-U versions(which PAL users did for free when it came to emulation), Sony went cheap... on a product you pay for.

That's what PS classic owners did, funny enough, three years ago.
Some of the games are PAL, but others are not. It seems to be strangely enough just the first party japanese games that are PAL.
Which makes it even worse, as they can even do more than just patch in a new language into NTSC-U/J version for certain regions.

Well it depends on how they would have to patch it. If the original versions did not have the languages this would mean a development team would need to look at them and add the stuff in rather than just straight porting the existing ROMs and making sure they work with trophies.

It's not that hard. In fact, here is a wiki website that explains how to do it easy: https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Apply_ROM_hacks_and_translations. You're telling me sony needs their own dev team to do this, when in reality all they really need to do is just ask permissions to use a tool that probably has a open license. Even then, they can easily build a plug-in for their own emulation that allows for on-the-fly patching. No excuses when this has been the standard for years when it comes to PC/android emulation. Even Nintendo had custom wrappers for the Wii that easily allowed people to inject language patches into custom N64 roms, because of Sin & punishment.

It may have to do something with the legality of things, I'd guess.

Like when Nintendo launched their N64 emulation people were wanting them to just use what already existed, but from the standpoint of the corporation that may not have been the wisest of ideas because it wasn't anything made under them and could compromise not just hardware or software but possible legal issues.

The thing I want to see if Sony will fix or adjust games down the line as well like Nintendo did.

they don't even have to go that far, been a while since I messed with playstation emulation, but iirc pal could still output 60hz if the console supported it (or I'm completely offbase and confuse it with another console, like I said it's been a while).

These are Vtubers being used as advertising mascots. They look boring and extraordinarily unoriginal. I don't know much about Vtubers, but I know these characters couldn't sell me... whatever they're selling. Placid and lame is the last thing you'd want associated with your product, no matter what you're selling.
advertising for what? tbh I don't even know why people brought them up, it's basically just sony jumping onto the vtuber train after they saw it makes mad dosh, but in typcial sony fashion way too late when the market is already crowded. almost all vtubers are advertising themselves, no one is gonna buy a sony bodypillow, they buy shit with their waifu on it (there are some like the crunchyroll one or some special nip ones representing prefectures etc., but that's the exception and like everything ad related questionable how effective it is. I highly doubt there's a high number of people that base their purchase decision solely on who has the cuter mascot).

Your character design has fundamental flaws if the onus is on the viewer to figure out their personality from a short stock list of them based on eye and hair color. That doesn't make for interesting characters, that just makes for variants of the same few characters over and over and over and over, much like how western entertainment's full of the same bland-ass Mary Sue mixed race girls that are smug and can do no wrong. They are boring characters that subvert no expectations.
as I said implied, it's not an absolute rule. it also means you can literally "subvert expectation" by going against it. and again, the design itself is only a small part of the whole vtuber thing, in the end it doesn't really matter, you can have the most subverting model on the fucking planet and it won't help you if you're not entertaining (which happens often enough in the indie scene). you are also aware that you're judging the character solely on it's looks, right? what should a character look like that you're willing to check it out? what if others do that too if that character is popular? are gonna stop watching now that the design is "mainstream"?

for anime in general, there's still plenty of variety if you look close enough. and like western shit everything has phases, most anime 10 years ago looked the same, just like it looked the same 20 years ago. eastern/western doesn't matter, the statistical dynamics and market forces are roughly the same everywhere. inevitably what's currently popular will decline, then replaced, and the circle continues.

The mainstream is currently dystopian and retarded. Fuck 'em
they always were. mainstream means majority, meaning you need a broad enough appeal and fulfill the mainstream's expectations and demands - anything else and there's a good chance whatever you put out will not be mainstream. and since the goal is to make money, not subvert expectations, it's pretty easy to see which direction they're going (not to mention after TLJ that shit can fuck right off, since it's synonymous with smug retards shitting out low effort dreck thinking themselves the smartest guy on the planet. subverting expectations is fucking worthless if it ends with a turd in your lap.)

that criticism is literally "why is pop music so fucking shit". maybe because it's fucking pop music?

This is their first party titles, I highly, highly doubt this is a legal issue. Sony did this 3 ago with the Playstation Classic, yet Nintendo nor SEGA have these issues when it comes to their backlog.

Using this argument then I guess the Xbox 360 emulation wasn't the wisest thing as well? Because wrapper emulation is what's being done the Xbox platform, and you can play games like Dead Space, Sonic Generations & Crackdown with enhancements.

Microsoft did run into legal issues though (but different) because they stopped making future BC games. They couldn't have it just be general emulation where you had to put the disc in and it would just work, the games had to go through legal verification and a good many titles just didn't make it for the series X. It wasn't like they made a launcher that could play the old games. Legal shit did cause their efforts to grind to a halt.

Those legal issues are with 3rd parties, not their own games. Noticed how all of their IPs that they own outright seems to work just fine? Sony owns the IPs for the games that run in PAL, literally no legal issues can be found. Imagine how retarded it would be to sue a internal studio that you own for fixing a issue with a property that you own. That would be exceptional

Unless I missed it, the original Xbox version of Halo and it's expansion still isn't up there and I don't think 2 is there as well.

The MCC version seems to be the only one available.

Because you can play the originals with the default graphics in the MCC? It's not really a legal issue when there is already a way to play with enhancements available. The only reason why Reach is made BC because it was a apologies add-on and Halo 3 was made BC because it was the first game that added enhancements to the emulation wrapper and it was the flagship. If MCC wasn't a shitshow those two games would've never made it to be backwards compatible

I have a question. How does PlayStation Plus work?

Like I heard Wild Arms is coming (or is there already?) so if I have the Plus then I can download game and keep forever?

It's on the platform, but it's the PAL version so it's going to run at 25 fps instead of 30. You keep them as long as you keep paying for PS Plus, like with the Xbox version of Games with Gold

Why does Sony keep doing this? The PAL standard is essentially dead unless you're collecting physical in that region. HDMI killed this standard but for some reason SONY can't rip a NTSC-U disc and upload them to their own servers.
I'm guessing whoever is responsible for maintaining the old broadcasting standards and dvd regions hasn't been fired yet from sony.

The PAL slowdown thing for PS1 games on Plus is completely absurd. They're using PAL versions for all the languages? Fine, I'll accept that reason. What I won't accept is how their emulator doesn't have an option to force 60hz. Or run the games 16.67% faster. If any emulated console needs a speedup function, it's PlayStation, with how long those 2x CD-ROM loading times can be, and how the platform's full of JRPGs. I like my old Final Fantasy games, but them bitches just ain't palatable in the least without a speedup button.

PlayStation had fullspeed games running in emulation IN THE 90s. ON iMACS. WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE ANY PROBLEMS WITH PLAYSTATION EMULATION AT ALL, TWENTY THREE MOTHER FUCKING YEARS LATER?!

with how long those 2x CD-ROM loading times can be
>be Mortal Kombat player
>pick Shang Tsung
>activate morph
>NOW LOADING
>take a drink
>keep playing for a bit
>morph ends
>NOW LOADING
>take a drink
>activate morph a second time
>NOW LOADING
>take a drink
>keep playing for a bit
>morph ends
>NOW LOADING
>take a drink
>repeat until passed out/dead
